3 year old running around 10pm and being questioned "Why is a 3 year old up at 10pm?". It's not like kids have jobs that make them tired at night time. also toddlers are still sleeping odd hours and taking lots of naps so they aren't always going to be asleep by 9pm .

Make your kids play sports like soccer and Im sure they will be tired by 10 pm.

Or make them to an exercise regiment like jumping jacks.

Burn the candle until theres no more wax to burn, so to speak.

also have to consider that parents have work so they can't always take their kid to the park for them play until they tire out.

I really hope you're kidding.

But yeah, it's not a super logical thing and mostly about being the "better" parent.

Children especially toddlers require structure. They should be put to bed at a reasonable time and that is not 10 pm.

Because kids need more sleep then adults do and we tend to have school be at ungodly early hours.

Because if a kid is up at 10, then they no longer need the nap.

My kids didnt nap at that age. As soon as they started having trouble getting to sleep at 8 I cut out the nap. Rough couple of weeks but they adjusted. Heck, my 13 year old is asleep by 9pm. And she sleeps until 6am.

so it's bad parenting that a 3 year old is occasionally up at 10pm. so what time should they be asleep?

Put them to bed when they're tired, if they aren't tired by 9PM, figure out how to make them tired by 9PM without meds or drugs. Find a fun activity for them to do (Play with friends, sports, a hike, etc..). If your schedule makes that difficult, give them chores.

It's not that hard.

For a toddler its not a big deal since its just the parents schedule. I once knew a nurse that worked nights and she had her 7 year old on nights also just so she could home school her kid on her schedule. That I thought was odd

Especially now. I feel like I was a rare exception. I wasn't allowed tv/computer privileges during the week, so I had shit-all to do but sleep.

Maybe not 7:30, but my almost 11 year old is in bed by 8:30. The 13 year old by 9 (but can fall asleep earlier sometimes). They both wake up naturally in the morning with plenty of time to get ready for school. No alarms and I have never had to wake them up. Just good sleep habits.

If theyre still up at that time its usually due to too many stimulants: TV, too much sugar, etc.

Toddlers need much more sleep than adults do and its not healthy for their development if they arent getting it. Not to mention it makes them cranky and even more difficult to deal with. Which results in parents trying to appease them with more TV and junk food. Which leads to more bad behavior. And the cycle repeats.

Jesus that's awful. The kid probably had no socialization.

I was specifically talking about older teens. That WILL change.

A toddler being awake until 10pm every night sounds like a nightmare.

I do know someone who puts their 3 year old to bed at 10pm but he sleeps until 10am. Seems like such a waste of the daytime and I really enjoy having those few hours at night with the kids asleep lol
