They don't live there by choice and you don't need to pretend that you didn't move to a really nice neighborhood specifically to get away from all that shit. I know it was cool to have a good public face and seem like you were down to earth and identified with the poor mans plight, but the days of being able to take that stance in words and not actions are long gone. Its not like there are going to be consequences if the Obama's for example just came out now and said "listen, I know what i said publicly, but I just wanted votes. I'm not running now, and living next to poor people is fucking miserable, and I dont want to do it, okay?" Just drop the pretense is all I'm saying. In places that have to contend with immigration on a regular basis, they have infrastructure already in place to handle it. Martha's Vineyard doesn't have that infrastructure. They pulled together to help those in need, but it was a temporary fix. I can't ever recall meeting someone who enjoyed being poor or mistreated. People in MV, The Hamptons etc have no direct relation to regular folks therefore they do not care.
