It's my first one I decided to play.
I'm on chapter 3.
When does the game open? It's just a slew of flashbacks and movies.
I enjoy the combat. But the game itself is kinda boring.

Yakuza games are all slow starters and can be quite heavy on the cutscenes.

Some of my favourite games though.

I dont remember which chapter as Ive only played it once but I felt it opened up around the time you get your fourth party member.

Every Yakuza game is frontloaded with cutscenes and plot, gotta embrace the drama.

It'll open up around...Chapter 4 or 5 I wanna say? Can't remember exactly.

I'm playing too and a bit further than you. Having played through every other game I can tell you the story always gets into some serious shit and the game always opens up.

Can't wait for that. Gameplay is amazing so far.

A little bit yeah. Only 50 or so hours. Game does open up but as typical with these games it takes a long while. When you gain access to all 4 party members and the job switching place opens you should be free to do a whole boat load of things. Probably around chapter 5?

I kind of have an irrational hatred a bit of this game and Y0 because theyre the entry points for people new to a series that Ive been playing for at least half my life. I just feel like new people arent gonna go back and play the other games. Like I said, its irrational

Yeah you're right there.

For me, it doesn't matter if these people play one, two, or all of the games in the series. If they get some enjoyment out of them, I think that's great.

you'll have to embrace that part of the series. at times you'll get what seems like a whole episode of a soap opera.

but i fuckin love that about yakuza.

I finished it a few weeks back and it was an amazing game. It's got quite a bit of side content on top of the main quest, but it's all worth doing.

In Y4 there's a chapter called "A Series of Betrayals".

That was probably peak soap opera. Lord.

Oh yeah, Y4 was absolutely the wildest for the number of betrayals that happened.

Most Yakuza games are like "here are some bad guys and then here's the REAL bad guy". Y4 is in a class all it's own where you think you've found the bad guy and then he gets betrayed, then that guy gets betrayed, then that guy gets betrayed.

All the drama and intrigue in the yakuza games are funny, very entertaining.

Im playing through Judgement right now and thoroughly enjoying the mystery. Just started chapter 8 I think. Its a lot more interesting than the Yakuza games but duh, its a spin off about a detective

It was actually hilarious to me. It ended and I was like "that title for that chapter is the most true thing I've ever seen". Literally everyone is betrayed, then the betrayers are betrayed, then the original people betray the betrayed, and then betrayers go back to being good.

Clearly I'm exaggerating but I haven't seen ANYTHING like that in the 11 or so chapters of 7, though I can feel the twist brew a bubbling.

Complete main stories alone, I think Judgment is the best that RGG has made up to this point. Judgment has places where it falters but the main story is top tier.

Agreed. Very interesting how the whole plot is based around a cure for Alzheimers apparently.

How does the sequel hold up? That one is next on the docket

I too am somewhere around chapter I think 9 or 10 and I also really enjoy Judgment. I like the changes to the buddy system and how subquests or rather, side cases, work in the game. Initially I hated it but now that I've spend 30+ hours in it, it makes the city feel more personable and fun.

Still great! Not quite as simply because it's not really about your characters and their history. Like Judgment's story is very personal to Yagami for a lot of reasons while Lost Judgment feels like it's more of another case with the Mystery Boys.

Which I'm all for, believe me. Not everything has to tie back to the protagonist's ancient history.
