There is a similar thing in Chinese. A teacher once was talking in Chinese in a college and got suspended when his students accused him of saying the n word

Apparently these words are common in east Asian languages

And apparently one time in Korea it caused a fight when an old man offered his seat to a black tourist and "you can sit here "

I was learning Russian on DuoLingo while in public and got to the word for "book." Didn't say that out loud...

They have slurs in their own languages for dehumanizing groups of people, so they dont have to use the English ones

Korea has its own slurs for all sorts of people. So there's no need to go out of their way to use the American slurs.

I'm pretty sure most people in Korea don't know that you or you are or various similar structure sounds like the n word. Nor should they really care, like most reasonable worldly people should never react to any language they don't have any knowledge of like that.

Think it was Apex this happened in. I remember seeing a JP pro got suspended by an auto ban system briefly for yelling something while playing on the NA server.

It's not the word for "you" alone, but rather, a slang variation of the word for "you" combined with the subject particle. It also differs from that word in terms of how the "i" is pronounced, though it's definitely close enough that it'd raise alarm bells to English speakers nonetheless.

that's exactly how you tell someone to "listen" in my family's language too. same as the Korean "you"

I've gotten in situations when I was talking on the phone with my mom or another person that speaks the language in school where I've gotten looks or had to explain it

It's also obnoxious and insulting to latinos and spanish speakers, when americans keep pushing for the term "latinx"

I knew a Russian dude back in college who when drunk at a party said "where my <slang n word>s at?" and a black dude heard him and got annoyed and his excuse was that he actually said some Russian phrase with the word book in it.
