President Biden, a gearhead with his own vintage Corvette, showcased his administration's efforts to promote electric vehicles during a visit Wednesday to the Detroit auto show, where he announced hundreds of millions of dollars to build roughly 500,000 charging stations across dozens of states.

Mr. Biden arrived at the massive North American International Auto Show to plug the huge new climate, tax and health care law that offers tax incentives for buying electric vehicles. He toured a mix of American-manufactured hybrid, electric and combustion vehicles from Chevrolet, General Motors, Ford, and Stellantis on a closed-off convention center floor, and greeted union workers, CEOs, and local leaders.

While Mr. Biden has been taking credit for the recent boom in electric vehicle battery and assembly plant announcements, most were in the works long before the Inflation Reduction Act was signed into law on Aug. 16. Mr. Biden's 2021 infrastructure legislation could have something to do with it it provides $5 billion over five years to help states create a network of EV charging stations.

Hell yeah. As an EV owner, this is badly needed. If the goal is to stop selling EVs in ~13 years, we absolutely need many more charging stations. Hopefully they also get good improvements in battery tech so that it doesn't take as long to charge.

I haven't taken mine on a super long trip yet, but Tesla also needs to build more superchargers around the country.

I gotta question, with all the push towards EV, how the fuck is California's grid gonna handle that if it can barely handle what it does now?

Many states will likely need to improve power grids for a number of reasons.

Needsto also be a big push for level 2 ev chargers in workplaces, apartments,etc. Places where people will spend 3-4 hours.
Will make EVs more accessible for those who don't have a house.

Upgrade it? I mean most if not all the grids in this country are decades out of date.

Now build high speed rail and nationalize the freight network

Easier said then done. The people of California has been trying to get PG&E and the CPUC to improve and strengthen the grid for years.

I just wish America would push through a high speed rail plan and implement it. I dream of the day we can travel via high speed rail across the country with walkable cities built around it. So much space is wasted with highways and parking lots.

Would be cool, but wont ever happen. America is too big and the costs would be beyond astronomical, even though the benefits would be amazing. There is no way shitpublicans would ever let it happen.
