Yeah, I always had assumed that was the case. I'm surprised it apparently wasn't in OW1? That might explain a lot why toxic chat still was a problem and would often not get caught...

In the blog post they make efforts to make it clear that audio logs are stored for a short time, that chats are only reviewed when a player is reported for abusive behavior, and that the log is deleted afterwards. I guess some people might be worried about stuff they chat about being spied on. I always run under the assumption that anything I write or say on any service has the capability to be recorded. I guess don't tell people your social security number on Overwatch chat. Maybe the people who do the Erotic Roleplay custom games might be concerned...

Imagine a day in the life of the guy who has to listen to abusive Overwatch voice chat all day to verify reports.

I hope theyre actually active because I can tell you they sure as hell as ignoring all reports for text based stuff. I cant tell you how many people Ive reported in the last month using the n word with 0 action was taken notifications popping up. Player and employee base must be so low theyll just keep the toxic racists even

Lots of fun games today. Queue times are speedy, and everyone is having a chill attitude enjoying the final day.

Also, it looks like dozens and dozens of influencers are giving away Watchpoint packs on Twitter and I'm trying to decide if I want to spam my feed with those entry retweets...

Overwatch 2 is a patch for Overwatch 1. You can't go back anymore, just like you can't go back to an old patch version.

It is against Blizzard policy to let you play old games that you paid for. Even games that are 20+ years old.

For people who are having trouble getting in a work around was found:

Select the Asia region, and when in line hit "Cancel". Then enter your login info manually. Skips to the front of the line.

Server problems are causing saved progress to be wonky. Did you do an account merge? I think that's causing issues.

The devs are claiming it's a DDoS attack. That... sounds fishy. I would have easily assumed it was launch issues. That would be a bold thing to lie about though, so I guess I'll take them at their word.

Although honestly I haven't had any problems playing aside from the queue to log in. Played like two dozen games yesterday without dc issues. Although most of them were off-peak hours. The game is still a ton of fun, and 5v5 is growing on me a lot. I like the feeling of having more breathing room and not being walled by double shield and stuff like that.

Sorry I know it's annoying as fuck posting shit like this when people are having enough trouble as it is playing the game they want to play to begin with with all these technical issues, but I'm just blown away by how much they've managed to fumble this launch.

The phone thing is annoying but people on the Reddit have posted ways to purchase a phone number for $1 to get around the issue.

Yeah it's annoying but this seems like the solution doesn't justify the outrage. Maybe I'm wrong and it's not possible for some people to buy the $1 phone number though.

It's kind of a lose-lose situation. If people can just work around it then that doesn't really stop the problem of blocking ban evaders. If people would pay for extra copies of OW1 to get around bans, then they'd easily pay a dollar for a phone number.

Agreed which is why I'm sure Blizzard will walk back this decision, especially based on the outrage.

I think if you can get around it by spending 5 minutes and $1 to get a number online then it's not really worth being upset about but I get that people are mad on principle or whatever.

The second image completely negates the counterpoint of "it's not worth being upset about because you can get around it for $1" imo. Making anyone feel shitty like that and putting them in that situation is atrocious.

Game was already fucked from the get go and Activision-Blizzard in general though, so it's not surprising. Just disappointing.

They're walking back the phone number thing, which was expected, but not fully? You don't need a phone number to play if you previously had a linked Battlenet account, but new accounts will still require it. This probably doesn't help new players who wanted to play but can't, and I'm sure there's tons of smurf accounts that used to be active that are now all viable. But maybe this will still help with smurfing problems and older players who disliked the system will be able to bypass it.

Players who lost access to old account data or were accidentally put into the New User Experience should see a fix soon. All the info is still retained on the servers, so nothing should be permanently gone.

Also, they clarified while DDoS attacks happened, they weren't the source of the issues. So that makes more sense to me. I expected launch problems, but apparently the attacks make it more difficult to fix.

You need to have a linked Battlenet account to bypass the phone number.

In June of last year they started requiring linked accounts on console because they added crossplay. So if you played since then you should already have a linked account. If you haven't played since before then, then there's a chance you don't have a linked account since it wasn't necessary.

I'm pretty sure if you played on PC you always needed to have a Battlenet account, so that's not an issue no matter when you played.

Edit: Also, the bypass isn't live yet. It should be up on Friday.

Haven't played Overwatch on Playstation since 2018 so guess it's still a bust for me then.

The time to kill in this needs to be severely reduced imo. I know people thought OW1 could be slow, but this so far is just deathmatch for everything. You can really feel the lack of an extra tank and DPS damage feels like it doubled since the first game

Heads up there's a glitch in the Weekly Challenges where some of them (the ones for damage, mitigation, and healing) will reset if you enter a Skirmish or Deathmatch. Lost two days worth of progress...

Better get some free coins out of this.

There's a reason I can't play games with loot boxes or gacha. For like the first year of playing Overwatch I spent enough money to get every item in the event. Couldn't help it.

Overwatch was the worst of it, but I spent like $500-600 on Dokkan Battle, about $250 on Tales of Crestoria before finally breaking the habit. But I still can't functionally play a game with rolls without spending money. I once installed Arknights, spent $30, and then never played the game.

I think you guys don't realize how easy it is to nickel and dime your way to that kind of money.

$1000 over two year means I was spending around $40/month on loot boxes, at a time where I wasn't a member of any subscription services nor playing games with monthly fees.

I spent more monthly now on streaming subscriptions.

Yeah dude it's not as simple as saying don't do it.

I can't not spend the money while simultaneously playing the game. I have to uninstall the game.

Although the battle pass example is actually an example that DOESN'T work. If it's an actual structured earning system then I can do that not problem, like with Apex.

But if it's not a BP and is totaly random loot then cash escapes me.

The way the shop works is so weird. It has Overwatch 1 cosmetics in it! And they're all ridiculously overpriced. There's like $20 skins in there! I don't know how they arrived at that price point compared to how much you would spend on a loot box?

Meanwhile the Battlepass has multiple skins too and is way cheaper. I think the BP is a pretty good value honestly. I guess they feel that because you have to work for them it balances out, but I still think the shop skins are way overpriced in comparison.
