I don't mean in what ways does the movie suck, I'm saying how did they go from a pretty damn good reboot movie that really addressed a lot of the problems with how the franchise ended up going (making Michael supernatural and making the murders this massive event everyone is obsessed about. The kid comparing it to all the mass shootings and stuff was spot on.) into this mess of horrible decisions that just felt like the complete opposite of the direction the previous movie was going towards?

Also the dialog and characters and weird humor were just soooo out off. You got a smidge of weird characters in the previous one, but nothing close to Kills. Was there a different writer or something? Did the studio get involved and muck it all up? Or was the remake just pure luck?

It was made by the same people, for the most part.

It's strange, because it's so different from that first one in a lot of ways.

In the first one you get the impression that the entire town had long since moved on from Michael Myers, and Laurie was the only one holding that torch.

Ben then in Kills there's all these other people in the town who are also obsessed with Michael.

I do actually still like Halloween Kills, though. It's very entertaining schlock to me.

And it had that subplot about the other mental patient that goes on forever, because this slasher movie needs to give you a big overblown lecture about mob justice, I guess.

This same thing happened in Halloween 4, and it was one fucking scene. The movie didn't need to grind to a halt for 20 minutes for it.

I just listened to the audio book for it yesterday and it is much better than the movie.

The movie had a lot of shit going against it.

First off, it steps into the real of absolute preposterousness by making michael nearly unkillable. Hes been shot, smashed and impaled dozens of times and just keeps coming (the book explains that the mask is the source of his power). Especially him being able to survive the fire. An extremely intense gas fire that rages for several minutes, right after all the abuse he just took. He went on to kill about 50 people with no real lasting damage to himself.

Nothing short of being blown to bits will put him down. (Im really curious on how they are going to kill him off in Ends. Best guess will be a suicide attack by Laurie that destroys both of them after she demasks him)

Then you have all the cringy and corny shit. The firefighter standoff, "Evil dies tonight!", Ol Huckleberry, Hawkins lame exposition sessions (not to mention coming back from the dead just to say "He needs to die!"), "Welcome home michael...", The beatdown in the street. It had some pretty awful moments.

The kills were great though. The best part of the movie was watching him absolutely fold and brutalize everyone.

The whole movie just felt like tying up loose ends. Pretty much every survivor from the 78 movie got shrek'd, and its all coming down to michael finishing the job on the last few.

It was a weak movie, but im hyped for Ends still. I still feel like Halloween 2018 is the best movie in the franchise.

Some other Halloween movies were made to suck on purpose, or didn't hit any of their production goals, or were not meant to appeal to the original audience at all

I get if you don't like Halloween Kills, but it's hard for me to hear it out when people say it sucks haha. It doesn't

And I'm really not expecting Halloween Ends to be great. I feel like it's going to be more in the vein of Halloween Kills than Halloween 2018.

Still really looking forward to it, though.

I don't think it's the worst Halloween movie at all.

I'd take it over Halloween 5, 6, H20, Resurrection, and the Rob Zombie movies.

Slasher movies don't work when they're planned to have a sequel from the get-go. Each entry should stand on its own and be the last one if necessary.

I know H20 is generally regarded as one of the better ones, but I just don't care for it.

I think it's aged really bad.

And Michael is so fucking unintimidating in it.

I loved the film. It was just Michael going on a rampage and wasn't ashamed of it. It's rare we see him (or slashers in general) get confronted and cornered by entire groups of people and even in the rare instances we do (police station in one of the older movies), you only see the aftermath. Something kind of cathartic about Halloween Kills for me because of that.
