Despite playing Superman in the DC Extended Universe, rumors are now noting that Marvel Studios has signed Henry Cavill for a role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Entertainment insider, Emmet Kennedy, recently posted a tweet noting rumors of Marvel Studios signing seven actors and actresses.

Aside from Cavill, the names mentioned include John Boyega, Jodie Comer, Daisy Edgar-Jones, John Krasinski, Giancarlo Esposito, and Denzel Washington. Kennedy notes that the talent potentially signed will help lead the Phase 5 plans for the MCU and that the President of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige, will be making an announcement regarding the signings at D23 Expo 2022 held at the Anaheim Convention Center September 9-11. Kennedy also mentioned the upcoming Fantastic Four and X-Men films in his tweet.

It is interesting to note, reports last year revealed that Henry Cavill met with Marvel Studios regarding a role.

I've been hearing about Henry Cavill and Giancarlo Esposito meeting Marvel, and D23 is in a couple of days, so I wouldn't be surprised.

I think it's gonna be Esposito as Professor X and Denzel as Magneto. Will parallel well with Malcom for Denzel.

Then again, I heard they're getting someone else for Mr. Fantastic, so it's surprising seeing Krasinski. Maybe a different character or maybe they'll do two versions with one from an alternate universe.

I'll be sad to have McAvoy and Fassbender retired from the roles (especially with their last two movies being stinkers), but Giancarlo as Prof. X and Denzel as Magneto would definitely make up for it.

I can't decide whether I love the suggestion of Denzel being Doom or Magneto more. Both sound amazing.

Jim is presumably Reed, although it would be a top troll move to have him as Reed in MoM and someone else in the main MCUinverse.

If Krazinski does end up being main-universe Mr. Fantastic, I find myself hoping that they skip the origin story, or at least have Reed be an established behind-the-scenes figure who's maybe been helping Fury with his off-world stuff. Remember how great it was when Homecoming pretty much glossed over Spider-Man's origin, because we all know it by heart and didn't need to see Uncle Ben die a third time? FF is in a nearly identical position, having had their origin story committed to film twice already in the past 20 years.

This. The FF origin is all well and good but it doesnt have to be the focus of the movie. Have it as a fun Easter egg thing in the opening credits.

Regardless of one's personal feelings on the quality of these movies or their impact on the film medium, the level of consistency and competence in the MCU's production is unprecedented, especially for action / superhero movies. That kind of clout is becoming more and more attractive to the kind of big-name, respected stars who might have turned their nose at it ten years ago - even the most self-serious actor probably still harbors childlike fantasies of playing a superhero. I predict that most of Hollywood will consider it a feather in their cap to have had a role great or small in the MCU; at whatever point in the future that it finally dies out, not having landed a role in the MCU will be like a British character actor not having had a role in Harry Potter.

Which is incredibly stupid. You can't just swap the Holocaust for any other genocide and call it a day. It wasn't the genocide that made Magneto who he was. It was the fact that it was a genocide done by his own people over claims of genetic superiority that was unique to the Holocaust and also a significant part of the tragedy of Magneto becoming a mutant supremacist on the basis of genetic superiority. He doesn't turn on humans because they kill each other. He turns on them because when your own people turn on you, what hope do you have winning over everyone else?

There's a difference between one ethnic group killing another and German scientists literally arguing that german genetic superiority makes them superior to everyone else. The latter is literally Magneto's argument around mutants, which is where the ironic tragedy comes from. There are direct parallels between the German concept of bermensch and Magneto's Homo Superior argument.

also, when Rwanda was a German colony, the Germans (and eventually the Belgians) propped up the Tutsi as being the superior ethnic group over the Hutu, even though neither initially saw each other as that (it was more of a class thing). iirc, the Germans were so impressed by how the Tutsi governed the country, they saw them as a lost European people's.

but after years of that, when the Europeans left, they gave the power to the Hutu majority, and years of mistreatment led them treating the Tutsi like second-class citizens.

that, on top of propaganda that the Tutsi were outsiders, had much of the Hutu ready to kill the Tutsi, and that's what happened after the Hutu president was assassinated.
