The grand majority of human beings will never accumulate anywhere near her wealth or status, including the majority of men.

Her profession is also in the entertainment market. Star power and chosen roles dictate those paychecks. If someone with a dick negotiates better and attracts more consumers, can't really fix it in that field. Equity was never part of the equation. Fame and motivation of consumers is. At elite levels there's no way to make that arena ethically "fair". Popularity rules.

Some male megastars reach high success because their appeal reaches both female AND male demographics. Jenn Lawrence has no shortage of popularity with male consumers, particularly in regards to her looks. That charm is not as big of a selling point with female consumers and her acting is not exactly irreplaceable.

If more women as consumers helped promote her as a favored icon and persuaded more men to support her work, there could be a shift. Statistically, she's SOL on that one. Female consumers are less likely to pay to see actresses like Lawrence. And activist takes like this article are actually NOT strong motivators with consumers regardless of sex. Some women will actually roll their eyes whenever they hear another pampered Hollywood bombshell whine about gender pay inequity in a field where she's still more privileged than 95% of the world.

There is no gender pay gap , men make more money because on average they work longer hours , more dangerous jobs , and more high performance jobs like being a doctor or an engineer. They are over represented in high paying fields , and that is with free will accounted for. Same way women are over represented in teaching and nursing.

Honestly this was debunked so long ago and so many times I'm surprised people still believe it. Plus it's illegal in the US to pay women less so even if it happens they have legal recourse to sue .

This is who/what I replied to. They were curious WHY people voted this way, when the most of the people on here say they are, "Leftist." The reason WHY they voted that way is because the poll asks two different things, kind of. The main question is if J-Law is paid less because she's a female, which the people who voted here voted, "No," she isn't paid less because she's a female. SHE, Jennifer Lawrence. The same people who don't think SHE is effect by this, may still think a pay gap exist in other jobs in the world.

I think this is a patriarchal. Husbands should earn more than their wives, and in order to do that, the jobs that the wives are more apt for will pay less than the jobs that men are more apt at. Like let's look at your nurse vs doctor example. Nurses do more routine work. But the doctor or surgeon comes in and makes a life changing decision. This is similar to the relationship between a fry cook and a kitchen manager. The fry cook maybe does more raw labor , but they are directed by a superior. Who deserves to make more ?

I'd argue men get hired/paid more on looks too. Yeah we have Danny devito and the like floating around but how often do they get lead roles? You can, but actors contribution to a film isnt as simple as screen time.

A small role from a big name, particularly a talented one, can elevate a film in terms of both quality and marketability. But ultimately, the business side all comes down to marketability. An actors worth is largely determined by how much of a draw they are for audiences.
