PiOverlord 08/31/22 7:38:00 PM #1:	is the fan-favorite of the entire cast. The one people always are like "god, I love this character." Most of the time, they aren't the main character, but a side-character people grow attached to. Obviously, in girl-centric shows, a girl naturally will probably fill that spot (although I do notice any guy on these type of shows get a disproportionate amount of love). In a lot of shows, sitcom, drama, live-action, cartoon, where it's a mix of genders, I feel people gravitate towards a guy character as their favorite. Please don't take this thread as a "guys>girls" thread I would like an opinion on why this tends to be the case. I can think of two: there is a layer of sexism which I will explain later and that the guys get the better lines/zingers/jokes. First part is sexism, we all are aware of the double-standard of guys vs. girls. I just have finished the first 4 seasons of BB, and I never once saw the outrageous thing Skyler did so far to make her so hated. As a matter of fact, I think of another fan-favorite character, Mike, who one can maybe describe as "hard-shell but with a heart of gold inside" as far as a show like BB is concerned. I find generally, people will not describe a female character that way; if she is externally mean but nice inside, we have a 5-letter word to describe her that starts with B. I believe, many aren't actively trying to hate on women, but there is perhaps some layers of subconsious misogynistic feelings that others will face. The second big reason is that generally, depending on the genre, the guy characters always get the best lines/scenes. If it's a comedy, they are getting the funniest lines (whereas the woman merely are tools to set-up the joke) or doing the funniest things. If it's action, the guys are looking tough and overall, cool. The big reason this seems to be the case is that society generally allows guys to act dumb and get away with it. Not to mention, every scene they do isn't being leered at by people trying to analyze any sexual bit of content they can get out of it (not in a humorful way, but like, guys being desperate for anything). It's a strange conundrum; are there any additional reasons for the 2nd point, or any additional reasons at all? Even looking at video-games, it's quite ironic how one of the most beloved women is Samus Aran, the generally quiet protagonist. Tommy is the clear winner from the early seasons but Kim is usually highly regarded among the "core" cast. Over on the Sentai side of things, worth noting that the Kiramager villainess Yodonna was a bit of a breakout fan favorite, at least from what I can tell. Olivia Benson is probably the general favorite character on SVU. And given that it's the most popular one, she's probably the general favorite in L&O in general. I thought about her, but she also has a large, and I mean, quite large hate-base. It's actually surprising because they call her out for acting stupid (and then the whole last episode before the finale pack too), which I usually feel people enjoy more.
