I feel like this kind of thing is where it gets cringe.

Like...look at The Sandman. It has representation out the wazoo, but it never feels forced or mandated. It just...is.

But now we're going to get this very deliberate "woman in a man's world" plot line that's almost certainly going to take up too much screen time. Maybe I'm wrong, maybe it's very minor (one can hope), but if it's like 60% of this character's existence to "prove herself 10x better than the men in the room" it's going to be justifiably mocked.

I think you're missing the point. This seems to be specifically exploring how the Empire treated women. You never see this in the movies aside from just the complete lack of female Imperial characters at all. But it was very much a thing in the EU/Legends. I don't think it's a theme just being pulled out of nowhere.

Literally nothing matters in that story nor do the characters but hey they're allowed to go nuts with the hamfisted social commentary again.

Hopefully it's about the end of gender politics because none of that is in the series going forward.

Could be cool if done well. The cinematography in Andor looks cool but it could also be just cuz all the other Star Wars TV shows kinda had mediocre visuals.

The imperial army are scumbags, they were all men for the most part.

the rebels had many women in various important positions.

I mean - if they want to create more women villains instead of the same ole 70 year old white man, Im for it.

I feel like this is one of the effective ways they conveyed the rebels as being the 'good guys' in the story. They had various species, races, and genders in their leadership while the Empire was nothing but human men.

I just feel like it's kind of a moot point to call out the sexism of the Empire when the Empire is so much worse than just sexist lol

Especially since we already had a female officer character of significance in Kenobi.

This shit is gonna be a tax write off in the end lol. I guess it's the best place to do it but also the worst because Andor is the dumbest concept for a show ever.

The Empire was a facist genocidal regime led by a man who probably thought every being was beneath him. I don't think gender and stuff mattered to them.

Eh the only Star Wars that matters is the original trilogy from the 70s and 80s (the good versions before Lucas edited them I mean), everything else is just trash and/or a moneygrab

Isn't the idea to make more women in the imperial army to shift this balance and make the Empire not appear so sexist?

Do they need to address it? If you've seen the Clone Wars series, females (be they bounty hunter, Jedi, or politician) were treated no differently than their male counterparts.

I just don't see why in this show, that's marketing itself specifically as a spy thriller with politically charged topics, is the concept of a woman dealing with being in an organization typically dominated by males "going too far" lol

Yeah. Their heart is in the right place but there's kind of a corporate-mandated feel to a lot of it. For example, the "she's not alone" scene in Endgame went just a little too in-your-face with it.

it is just weird to have an organization that is literally Nazis and be like "maybe you guys should have more women at the top of your evil Nazi regime" and likewise the company over the lore is like "we need more representation of women in the space Nazi side of things so girls who like Star Wars can see themselves in it, if they like the space Nazis more than the progressive Rebels"

like, I don't know that a target demographic of female Trump supporters is a good idea or will make money

then again I guess it riles up alt-righters who love Star Wars cause they do identify with the Empire for them to see the Empire become more progressive

I mean, it's not even really all that true, anymore.

Yeah, in the OT, all the imperials we see were men. But that was 40 years ago.

These days, we have the commander from season 2+ of rebels, the spy in Kenobi, a solid 50%+ of the inquisitors. To say nothing of the other evil women nor directly affiliated with the empire, like Ventress, Mother Talzin, Nala Se, etc. Or in Legends, where we had the likes of Kreia, Visas Marr, Mara Jade, Lumiya, and Darth Zannah.

If anything, I'd say the GOOD GUYS are more lacking for women than the bad guys are, empire or not. We've been drawing on the Leia, Padme, Ahsoka, Rey well basically forever.
