Where have you been and what was your experience? Those who have served, where have you been posted/stationed? Doesn't have to be US.

Yeah. I worked out of Vandenberg space force Base for a few weeks when on travel for work.

Also was on a different base visiting some family that lived there.

Not really sure what you're asking though. Why the work one, I just went to the area my company controlled, and I'd also go to the base gym at times also.

And then with the other one, I only really saw the family living areas. Pretty much just a neighborhood with single family homes

A couple. As a kid in Illinois our town was right next to an air force base, and being that my grandfather was an air force vet we could go on base. Plus they had an open house every year where you could go get tours of the various training areas and see some of the aircraft.

Then there was Ft. McClellan, Alabama where I did my time in the Army.

Both my parents served in the airforce (dad for about 10 years, mom for 20) I was born in the Langley air force base hospital, and probably spent some days there in daycare. Also visited McDill a few times because my mom was stationed there.

I've never served, and haven't been on a base since I was a kid. Mom left the air force when I was in middle school

I served 4 years, and lived on post at Ft. Dix, NJ; Ft. Benning, GA; Ft. Sill, OK; Ft. Leonard Wood, MS; Ft. Indiantown Gap, PA, and Camp NY in Kuwait.

Just wondering about others experiences, I know we have a few on CE that serve or have served.

My dad was in the army

In the 80s I lived on base in Alaska

Fort Richardson next to Anchorage

Then we moved to PA and we never lived on base again but I visited Fort Indian Town Gap

Then we moved to WA and lived near Fort Lewis

I also was on a base in Everett Washington but I don't remember the name

I think that's every military base I have been to

That's kinda crazy, Indiantown Gap is a small and lesser known one, we went a couple times a year for training, I lived in East PA at the time.

I go onto Fort Wainwright once or twice a month, you can just get a day pass and go to the civvy side. There are some restaurants there that are the only ones like them in town. You can get some good stuff from the commisary too.

Damn, six posts in four years seems like a lot.

I had a friend in the national guard who got deployed to Kuwait, although that was in 2008 iirc. We were still in high school in 02.

Travis AFB, Kunsan AB, RAF Mildenhall, Vance AFB, Camp Lemonnier and Chabelley Airfield were the ones I was stationed at, and I did training at Lackland AFB (I know obvious), Keesler AFB, and did some survival stuff at McGuire.

Had an internship with the DOD working at Naval Submarine Base Bangor. As a kid we drove through Fort Lewis quite often (pre-9/11 it was no big deal getting on this particular base at least). For work I went to Fairchild AFB.

Not a base, but I did get to watch a bomb demonstration in a remote location on federal land that I can't disclose where it was. I somehow ended up being the cost account manager on that program during testing and that was the best boondoggle trip I ever went on.

Camp Pendleton, CA and Camp Lejeune, NC.

Pendleton is nestled right in between San Diego and Los Angeles right along the coast. Id argue its the best military installation geographically in the United States. Miss it every day, best 4 years of my enlistment.

Lejeune isnt as completely horrible as some people think it is, but it still sucks and Id never go back. Objectively the worst 4 years of my enlistment.

Ive been to dozens of other installations/posts but these are the two I spent the most time on.

I lived on El Torro as kid in the 90's before it shut down. I visited Camp Miramar and Pendleton a lot growing up.

Living on El Torro as a kid was pretty great, it was a fairly nice base. I also liked being around other military brats because we all more or less went through the same thing.

My Dad was in the Navy when I was a kid so I went on the base fairly frequently then after he retired he could take us on on to bases for various reasons (usually to hit up the exchange, when we visited Hawaii we would stay in military recreational sites like Bellows Air Force Station (look it up, its cool).

Then I was in the Army for four years so obviously a lot of time on bases then.

I was on a funeral detail as one of my first assignments after training at Fort Gordon. We did funerals for veterans in the area around Augusta GA. The "Youth Challenge Academy" was right next to where we were based. And we got to watch these sad looking teenage boys in oversized dirty sweat pants and sweat shirts being yelled at as they jogged an old track right near where we met up before funerals.

It seemed so fucking morbid. These poor kids being screamed at by their "Drill Sergeants" while we we carrying around coffins practicing for military funerals with taps, flag folding, and 21 gun salutes.
