Doesn't seem to be clicking with me like it did with others. And now a lot of things are annoying me.

  • I don't feel like I am getting stronger from run to run, sometimes it seems like I am straight up weaker.
  • The upgrades overall suck, they feel inconsequential and take too long to get.
  • It takes way too fucking long to upgrade weapons. Like it would take hours and hours to even moderately upgrade a single weapon let alone more than one.
  • People praise the story and characters, but there are only so many time I can walk around house Hades and read a random line of dialogue before losing interest.
  • Boss fights are boring and take too long.

Probably doesn't help that I just beat Children of Morta a few weeks ago, and honestly that's a better game.

I would maybe read up on all the game's mechanics first, since going by your description above you might be missing a few key features or be unaware of upcoming unlocks.

Like, for example, keepsakes do level up with use but you might not have unlocked companions yet. Also, weapon upgrades become SIGNIFICANTLY easier once you've beaten the game at least once to unlock ways to tune the difficulty of a run. Weapons also have a secret aspect that radically changes how they work, in practice nearly doubling your arsenal.

You might also benefit from looking up some easy to acquire "meta" builds since most bosses will go down in like 20-30 seconds with the right build so if you're struggling to beat them quickly you're probably not combining abilities efficiently.

I don't understand your complaints at all, as it was almost too easy to get stronger and beat the game. I loved it but was relatively easy for a roguelike. I think it took me 22 runs for my first full run through. Also, most boss battles are like a minute or two.

The main thing is, don't spend time on a game you don't like if you've got something else you want to get to. That said, I also eant to mention that I thought it was interesting how minor some of the effects sounded from thr description vs. how much difference they made. You can almost let the game pick boons for you just by choosing the rarest (prefer purple epic, rhen blue rare, then plain) as long as it's not something you just won't use.

The one criticism I'll levy against Hades is that it has a LOT of hidden mechanics with little to no hint as to how to unlock them. If you go in blind and don't google the game mechanics I can totally see players walking away feeling like the game is a bit shallow. You can't unlock hidden aspects until you complete one very specific aspect first which requires investing a certain amount of upgrade points into it first and the game doesn't tell you any of that. You can EASILY play for 15 hours and never unlock a hidden aspect, never unlock a companion, never realize how duo boons work, and if you haven't completed a run never learn about the options to tune difficulty to get upgrade components.

I don't think I am very good at roguelikes in general. I just found Hades relatively easy.

Honestly I don't remember that, but I do believe you. I think I just kept utilizing everything in your room and in the weapon room until I figured everything out.

You probably already know this, then, but just in case: did you know that every mirror ability has an "alternate mode" with different effects that must be upgraded on its own?

Minor spoilers:
https://hades.fandom.com/wiki/Mirror_of_Night
Each ability from the Mirror has two versions, one colored red and one colored green (the green talents are not available from the start they will be unlocked following a conversation with Nyx after collecting a minimum of 300 ). Each version needs to be invested in separately. For example, spending Darkness on Shadow Presence does not upgrade Fiery Presence. Only one version of each ability can be active at a time, and they can be switched between freely while reflecting at the Mirror.

Man I am trash at these games and I think my first clear was after about 15-20 attempts? If you combine the abilities properly you'll do just fine, and with keepsakes your build shouldn't be too hard to make

Alternatively, just play gun with Zeus and brrrrrrrrrr to win

I beat Hades once, but I kinda agree. It was kinda fun but I got burned out kinda quick. I don't play roguelikes though so I have no comparison.
