Don't know what his beef is with New Vegas, though. Either he's trolling because it's the only thing that gets him hard, or he's been on a personal crusade ever since presumably New Vegas broke into his home one night and made some unforgettable inroads into his sphincter.

It's the writing. New Vegas was written by people that understood nuance and what "Fallout" was all about. 3 was written by a hack in love with shallow Hollywood nonsense.

I will say one major thing I do prefer about Fallout 3 is that I think the Capital Wasteland is just more interesting than the Mojave. I know the setting and tone is much more true to the original Fallouts in New Vegas, but the Capital Wasteland feels better.

That's pretty much all it has going for it over NV though.

It's really upsetting that Bethesda didn't expand on the things that made New Vegas great and instead took Fallout in the direction of being a looter shooter with a barebones story and hardly any roleplaying elements

New Vegas style storytelling, characters and roleplaying with Fallout 4's scale, combat mechanics, weapon/armor customization and basebuilding features is my dream game

I thought that too until I actually looked at the Capital Wasteland and noticed how it's actually a terribly designed worldspace, nothing there makes sense and nothing works in how its presented. It's a shallow theme park that doesn't even feel like a world. I guess I ruined it for myself when you think about it.

Everyone keeps telling me to play 3 but I'm happy with replaying New Vegas until I die. And playing FO76 don't @me.

iirc new vegas was much more of a buggy mess on release and suffered from bad marketing. I thought it was some sort of "standalone dlc cashgrab" at first when it was announced, not a full fledged game from a different studio.

For good reason, as on launch day it ran like complete ass. However after the game was patched and the DLCs came out, Id say it holds the edge over Fallout 3 in spite of me being a massive fanboy of Bethesdas first crack at the post-apocalyptic RPG franchise.

So did I! I always thought Fallout 3 looked ugly so I never bothered, and New Vegas was like a DLC.
I actually only played New Vegas cause my roommate said it was his favourite game and it was ready to play on the 360.

I'm doing a replay of 4 right now (no mods, hardest difficulty, 1 strength and 1 endurance) after not playing it since late 2015 and i'm having a blast. I get 2 or 3 shot from most enemies so I gotta play it like Tarkov, but my other stats are great so other parts of the game are opened up.

Mechanically NV offers a lot more options. Hell, just being able to aim down sights was something you could not do in Fallout 3.

On the flipside though VATS was way stronger and spammable in Fallout 3. Anything prior to the DLC enemies could be wrecked with a simple Hunting Rifle thanks to the infinite headshots from VATS.

You also feel the lack of a Jury Rigging perk for easy repairs. I think at best in Fallout 3 some of the variations of Combat Armor could repair each other. It wasn't until you get the Alien Epoxy or whatever from Mothership Zeta that you could do easy repairs.

Also an eight month deadline with no extensions. It's pretty amazing they put together such a great game in that time.

Oh yeah playing Fallout 3 through A Tale of Two Wastelands makes it much better to play since it uses New Vegas' shooting mechanics. Which means you can actually aim and all that.

When I played nv I thought it was just fo3 but in the desert lol

maybe I should play it again with some mods to help the dated gameplay

I've always liked making a female version of myself in RPGs, especially FO/ES. That and other things make me question myself sometimes...like seriously.

And NV is one of my favorite games ever and these past few topics about it make me want to play it again.

Agreed. The game has some real character to it and I think the Capital itself was really well done. The locations in New Vegas are incredibly bland for what they are sans that place where you meet Lily.

I applaud the game for trying to make The Strip seem lively but its a total waste when you consider everything outside of it is incredibly sparse and goes back to a lonely wasteland as soon as you step outside.. even the inside felt dead

I remember rushing to go get Oblivion with guns and spending all day getting as far as I could.. when they announced New Vegas I got the collectors edition with the deck of cards and poker chips lol. It didnt really grab me as hard as I thought it would.. I remember getting to The Strip and being completely disappointed with the highlight being those bounty missions for the NCR right outside of The Strip
