This is not an attack or anything. I honestly just want to find out why someone would support Republicans at this point. I honestly don't understand. How someone can say. This party who literally want children to go hungry is the party for me.

If there is, theyre closeted.

Theres barely any admitted centrists posting on the CE board.

You may find them on the politics board but CE seems to be fairly left of center.

She does know that the economy suffers under Republicans, yeah? And that historically they've been very successful in raising taxes on anyone earning below a few hundred thousand while lowering tax rates on those earning above a few million.

Doesn't matter what I tell her. I will never change her mind. Even most of my own family vote Republican and think like this. They truly believe in trickle down economics, and that raising taxes on the wealthy will crash the economy.

And I've tried for years to convince them otherwise but I've pretty much given up now.

I havent voted for a major Republican since Obamas first term because even though I have fiscally conservative views and support strong foreign policy, the fundamental Christianity, bigotry, and anti democratic ideals that have taken over the party are too dangerous to support. Trump and his criminal associates should all be in jail.

The dems are a disaster but its better than turning the US into a taliban like state.

The two party system needs to go, Citizens United needs to be thrown out, limits need to be imposed on the Supreme Court, age limits imposed on members of congress, single subject requirements for bills, and there needs to be major changes to the electoral process. Government needs to serve the people and not a political party, big business or lobbyists. /rant

Republicans probably dont post more because the mods are ridiculously biased.

Sounds like the only thing to do is to get a new mother in law. Just toss the old one out and get a new one.

A lot of Republicans are just tribalistically stuck into their beliefs at this point.

But it's also not hard to stay republican when we hit an economic downturn shortly after Biden is elected, after 4 years of high economic growth under Trump.

I hate this reasoning they use to justify being on the evil side. What makes the economy more important than the people? There wouldn't be an economy without the people.

This sums up the failures of the dems IMO. They used to be able to appeal to blue collar middle America workers and now its just college educated city people that they go after. The GOP is owned by employers of blue collar workers and have an inherent bias against them, yet they vote red. Same with some groups of immigrants. These groups should be the center of the dems but they arent.

According to some people here, even if you vote for every democrat down the line, support 99% of their positions, if you diverge on one or two things, you may as well be a trump supporting right winger who is evil incarnate.

There shouldn't be. CE keeps tabs on all of the offenses perpetrated by Republican politicians. Anyone who visits here often and still votes Republican has to know what the party is all about.

One or two headlines, you can say those are isolated incidents or bad representations of the party. Being here and seeing repeated headline after repeated headline of bigotry or injustice emanating from the Republican party, you have to know that's the rule and not the exception.
