And some asshole can tell me what to put on it. I should have stayed in the county. We have an architectual committee that approves basically any sane improvement that complies with county code. (The alternative was to give in to the homeowners and levy a special assessment for twice our annual dues.) We are responsible for all common areas. We dont have many, but the costs are high: tree trimming/care; sprinklers (and water bill!); creek abatement; fire abatement; and, in the past, security cameras. We also have a few things such as benches and pathways that need periodic maintenance. Were a small HOA (couple hundred homes) but have a lot of Open Spaces in a high fire danger area. It includes access to a few community pools, a gym, an arcade, a sports complex, lots of trails and parks for the kids. The pools and gym alone make it worth it. Ive been going to the gym for a few days now and its nice not to have to pay for a membership. It doesnt have all the fancy equipment of the big gyms but has what you need imo.
