Scalding water is going to cause burns and possibly blind them. So if the person that uses it is found at fault for it they are fucked so hard in this situation.

Meanwhile, knives and whatever else you imagine they had available only tickle the assailant into submission.

They will cause harm too for sure but all based on use where as water that again can be pretty damn unpredictable in terms of where its going to fully hit because its a fucking liquid and you again risk hitting your own fucking teammates with it if you throw it too late. Be like if they used a make shift flame throwing with a can of flammable materials and a lighter

Then at what point would you consider backing away from the situation being viable before using something as a weapon?

The kitchen of a taco bell is roughly the same size as a food truck. There's nowhere to "back away" unless you plan to just abandon the floor & the cash for the day.

In any case there was still some room where if they followed further in then yeah you could justify the water as fucked up as it is.

It was literally the only weapon available to them, and that's perfectly legal when acting in self-defense. How the fuck are you not understanding this?

Formal training in any customer facing position when a customer behaves in a threatening fashion is 1: assume it's a robbery, 2: tell them they can take whatever they want and just pray they don't decide to kill you anyways.

So a customer is standing shouting about a wrong order, and the official response is "Its a robbery! take whatever you want!"

The fuck kind of logic is that?

What situation? The situation of "when a person assaults you at work, your first move is to drop down and suck their dick, then if they continue to assault you, MAYBE you're allowed to defend yourself... if it's a severe enough assault!"

Uh huh sure it was the only thing that can be used as a weapon, sure.

And no the situation in mind is that regardless if the customers intent rather or not they would have harmed anyone or be loud as fuck they barely got past the counter (and most they were in the side area) and there were four workers tops at that time. If they progressed further in then sure as the workers are still in range for the water.

I don't "want" to be right, I AM right. Somebody aggressively getting in your face is assault. You do not back down when being assaulted. You don't reason with your assailant when being assaulted. You do not wait to see if the assault gets worse. You do not escalate in minor increments hoping it scares your assailant off rather than causing them to match your escalation. You end it. You make them stop. If they get hurt, that's their own goddamn fault for assaulting you in the first place.

*skips through mess of a topic*

Retail/fast food employees are always dealing with angry customers and lots of times the customers get combative and sometimes even make threats to the employees or general threats like that theyll go outside and scratch up their cars or burn the place down.

In the video it looks like they went behind the counter and stepped up to them like they were about to throw down. The locking them inside was probably because 911 was being called. But its best to not lock people in even though 99% of the time the people leave before police arrive.

Im willing to bet most of CE has never held a job for long in which they had to put up with the general public and deal with crazy s*** or felt like their lives or their coworkers lives were threatened. Its even worse if you work those jobs in a city. *topic list*

Hell, they may not have even actually LET the customers in. I have routinely seen the locks at on doors with panic pushbars not fully engage even when the pusbars pop out to indicate the door is locked, and in past places have had to Lock, Push door frame, see door opens anyways. push door so it opens wide and SLAM it shut.

The panic hardware is reliable but the actual locks on them SUCK. Had places where I was on the open team, looked and verified the panic door was engaged while setting up, and then turn around and see a customer just fuckin walked in and is upset they aren't being helped when WE AREN'T EVEN OPEN WTF THE DOOR WAS LOCKED.

The fact of the matter is, the employee is allowed to defend themselves. It wouldnt matter even if the water was boiling, or even if it was boiling oil. If they followed them and threw water at them a second time thats wrong. But the first time was completely fair

i mean, i could go for some taco bell but i've already started drinking for the night and pretty sure their lobby is closed by now. They sometimes let me if it's an early-close for due to staffing since i'm recognized and liked, but I wouldn't expect the late night closing crew to do that.

Guess I'll have to wait until tomorrow.

No it isn't. Making sure the aggressor has actually left the building and the door latched behind them is imperative. Carrying the only weapon she had (hot water) is prudent in case the customer turns around to attack.

It's also prudent for an attempted murder charge, which I am desperately hoping the employee gets. Pouring boiling water on a person is at least aggravated assault, which the psychos here are trying to pass off as self-defense. Fine. Chasing after a fleeing person with a second pitcher of boiling water? Def attempted murder. The customer's ace in the hole will be the locked door. The employee is doing hard time. Count on it.

Resorting to boiling water in the first place, going back for another dose of boiling water, locking the door so they couldn't escape. Then this bit in the article:

They then ran to their car where family members waited, the suit reads. "As this family was leaving the parking lot, a Taco Bell employee came outside the front door, laughing, clapping, and taunting the family," the suit claims.

Taunting the family after causing horrific injuries? Sounds like pure sadism to me.

Fuck it. Get the entire store for attempted murder. Every single employee.

Oh look, another person who ignores facts.

1: getting in the employee's face as they did is legally assault, any violent response to an assault is self defense.

2: ensuring your assailant ceases all assault is the entire point of self defense, so yes making sure they actually leave is imperative. It's that or make sure they can't get back up.

3: the water was not boiling.

4: They literally were not locked in, you literally CAN'T be locked in. The idiots just didn't press the fucking panic bar.

Taco Bell doesn't have a "panic bar." Every Taco Bell I've been in has a lock you need to turn and non-employees are specifically forbidden to do it.
