Good ass movie. Not as good as Get Out, better than Us (which I liked a lot). I thought the final trailer spoiled the movie but it didn't. Basically Jordan Peele's love letter to making movies.

He's in about a quarter or 1/5 of the movie. He's an important character. Probably the 4th most important character. Only 3 characters have more screentime, the two leads and one other character.

I'd say it people's general obsession with violence and spectacle, especially in entertainment. There's not a lot of racial commentary in this movie like there is in his other movies. All of that gets knocked out within the first 20ish minutes of the film.

Tbh, I think it was my favorite. I like western-horror kinda dealy like this one. I thought some of the shots in this movie were just amazing. Like the rain scene

The house covered in blood is probably one of the coolest shots in his movies. Some Sam Raimi shit.

A lot of reviewers prior to release said it wasn't a horror and they're wrong tbh. It just wasn't all that scary but it was 100% a horror movie.

I agree, everything up until the last act was just straight tense and scary. The third act reminded me of like an epic 90s movie lol

also the monkey stuff was horrifying and Im trying to find the meaning in it

I think it was to reinforce Steven Yeun's character's own exploitation of a violent and tragic event he went through to profit off of it.

and also it presented the whole "don't look the horse in the eyes" thing but with a monkey and the loud pops from the balloons instead.

Tbh tho I'm not 100% sure what was going on with the shoe.

i need to hear the thoughts on Nope from somebody who thinks that Us is little more than surreal imagery ham-fistedly stitched together without regard to plot.

because as much as I enjoy the imagery of Nope's trailer, it looks like it's more of that, and I'm not down for another one of those.

It's really nothing like Us at all if that's how you felt about it lol it's pretty straight forward with its cinematography and is probably the most "blockbuster ass blockbuster" Peele will ever make.

I say that positively.

i like the cinematography from Us, I just don't like how uncohesive the story feels. To me it felt like the stories I used to write in high school in creative writing class. polygon's review makes me skeptical of nope bc it basically says it suffers from the same problem:

Tbf the story in NOPE seemed pretty clear and cohesive to me. It doesn't really meander or get lost. Everything feels as fully realized as it should have been with the exception of maybe one character. I think it's worth seeing in theaters just because of the scope of it all. There's some pretty big scenes.

There's maybe 2 or 3 significant jump scares but really they're not bad. The movie overall isn't very scary, and it doesn't use jump scares cheaply to try to be.

There are a shit ton of string hits tho, like an usual amount lol but they're not always accompanied by a jump scare.

Also I don't want to spoil the movie here outright. There's a lot to it and I think I'd do it an injustice by spoiling the parts I would spoil.
