They were added, and in my first full playthrough you had to jog everywhere all the time. Enemies are mostly set at a level, so you can venture into places that are tough, only to return later. There's literally one proper city and then a few tiny tiny towns, and the rest of the world is just the same ugly forest. Pawns are a cool mechanic but the game also has an air of euro-style jank present throughout. Plus the story is wack.
