This some Mandela effect shit? I could swear I remember it having a red genie associated with a ring, and in particular there being a scene where Aladdin wishes for someone else's wish (done via the lamp genie) to be undone and the ring genie says he doesn't have the power to undo the lamp genie's work.

If it happened, it was probably in the cartoon series. I don't think it was in the movies, but I haven't watched the show, so idk

Edit: There's also a "genie of the ring" in the original story of Aladdin and the Lamp, according to a wiki page I found. There's also concept art for a Genie of the Ring from the production of the original Disney Aladdin movie. So it does kind of exist, but idk where you came across it.

Well it wasn't from a ring but Jafar came back as a red genie. He had his own lamp. Maybe the ring was in the tv series

This might make sense. I had an, I guess audiobook but before those were really a thing, version of it as a kid. Maybe it was based on the original story instead of the Disney version?

That sounds like something that happens in the original story. There's a ring genie and a lamp genie, and the Jafar figure poses as Aladdin's uncle to get him to dig out the Cave of Wonders. Uncle Jafar gets the lamp genie, but Aladdin gets the ring genie.

Maybe you picked up a public domain retelling of the original Aladdin story with good-but-not-perfect recreations of the Disney designs to avoid copyright. I had an audio CD of that version of the story, as well as an accompanying picture book, when I was really little.

Yeah alright, I looked up a summary of the original story and it all sounds very familiar, so I think this is it.

Sounds likely. And you probably listened to it after watching the movie and pictured the audio book characters as the movie characters (same characters, but you know what I mean lol)

That's probably you mixing in Jafar. You knew it wasn't the blue genie, so your mind just assumed it was him.

Was it this version? It's the only animated version that I know has the ring genie.

ironic that Aladdin is the most famous tale from "Arabian Nights" in the west, but yet it's actually not one of it.

In the original tale of Aladdin and the Wonderful Lamp, the Genie of the Ring was a lesser genie that was weaker than the one in the lamp, but was given to Aladdin by the evil Sorcerer in order to traverse the magic cave where the lamp was hidden. When he found the lamp and became trapped in the cave after the Sorcerer tried to betray him, he used the Genie of the Ring to help him escape the cave. He later discovered the second genie in the lamp he found and used its greater powers to wish for great fortune. But when the lamp is stolen by the Sorcerer, the Genie of the Ring is unable to undo the Genie of the Lamp's magic over the city, but he still aids Aladdin in getting the lamp back and saving the kingdom and the princess.
Disney replaced the ring genie with the carpet.
