Maybe it has more to do with the fact that remaking a remastered game that never looked that bad to begin with, and is likely only being done as a quick cash grab in the first place, isnt the best example to use to set an industry standard that graphical leaps are done.

This has less to do with graphics leaps, and more to do with lazy developers running out of new ideas, and literally remastering a remaster that never even needed to be remade.

The screenshots are from cutscenes. Those were pre-rendered. So this isn't really a good comparison.

I mean, yeah, there really hasn't been much of a change at all. The biggest graphical leaps are in rendering of small details, rather than what seemed like massive paradigm shifts for most gens before this one.

I mean, yeah, there really hasn't been much of a change at all. The biggest graphical leaps are in rendering of small details, rather than what seemed like massive paradigm shifts for most gens before this one.

Long gone are the "wow" leaps from 8-bit to 16-bit to 64-bit to CD-based games

With current gens, the resolution is a little higher and the framerate is a little smoother, but there's nothing mindblowing...

I feel like there could be 1 more leap, but it isn't going to be for another 10-15 years. That UE5 tech demo was pretty much it, but that's just a demo of what's to come. Right now, they need to focus on making everything a smooth experience.

I'm talking no load times, 4k possible with a minimum of 60 fps with the aim of 100 fps. Also figuring out a way to reduce the overall size of games without reducing the size of games, if that makes any sense. Take a game that is 150 gb, find a way to reduce it down to 100 gb without removing any of the quality that would occur by zipping a file.

That's less a hardware thing and more a dev process thing. Optimization is often flushed down the toilet for the sake of deadlines. At least it's possible to optimize post-release, although I don't know how popular that is. To date, I only know of Warframe making consistent optimization updates to shrink file sizes and (minutely) improve performance.

Charging $70 for a remake of The Last of Us is truly taking the piss

In fairness to TLoU remake, they're apparently changing the gameplay to use the sequel's mechanics, so they are at least doing more than just giving it a new coat of paint.
