Its still a semi-auto, which have been around much longer than the AR-15 and similar rifles. I used to own a rifle that shot .44 magnum rounds, the Ruger Model 44. According to gun control logic it is perfectly acceptable for me to own the Model 44, and even the Mini 14 that fires the .223, but a rifle with a synthetic stock and pistol grip isnt? I get people are upset and angry, as they should be. But, that anger is being directed at an object. We dont blame car manufacturers for drunk driving fatalities, I mean no cars equal no accidents right? Everyone take a bus or train.

Right but again the object in question is designed to kill here as opposed to drunk driving which is all w on someone being under the influence. Cars by all means are not designed as weapons.

Maybe I am just complacent and snug in the security that I can send my daughter to school and she won't be gunned down by some fucking nut before bell time. That's a sacrifice some people are willing to make in the US, I guess? The right to have something that has no practical, legal purpose (but my gosh does it look cool on the wall!) is apparently worth more than the lives of children.

The surivors (especially being children) have to live with the nightmare that was that day for the rest of their lives. The deceased weren't the only victims here, and given how inadequate this country is at dealing with mental health issues...

Some will. I'm fairly sure others will not. The reason they can keep their heads in the sand is because they don't see the carnage. It's not about reason or logic. It's purely about emotion. So many GOP voters are complacent because their own emotional lives are flowing along smoothly like normal. That normal smooth flow has to be interrupted. They have to be emotionally disturbed. And imagery is more visceral and better suited to disturb.

Why would they even consider sharing them unless asked though? That's images of their young loved ones and their peers and caretakers whose lives were robbed from them while their bodies were mutilated. Guns used for ill purposes and just plain evil against people obviously cause horrendous results. This isn't some situation were observers can learn anything beyond that, unlike in cautionary instructional videos about improper firearm use, driving accidents or factory / machinery accidents.

If the Allies had never taken pictures of the concentration camps after liberating them, Holocaust denial would be a lot more common. In fact, the pictures were taken and released precisely because they predicted there would be dipshits out there calling it a hoax. Just like the assholes today like Alex Jones who say Sandy Hook was a hoax and have fans who torment the victims' loved ones, calling them crisis actors

I wonder what kind of impact all this stuff is going to have on tourism. I already know so many people that just wont go to the USA anymore. And that cant just be anecdotes.

I agree. I feel like if the GOP were forced to see the pictures of these events every time they happen, it would get harder and harder to brush it off. Pictures and videos always have massive effects on people.
