Legend of Legaia

I like that game but theres a part where you can get new armor for the girl if you talk to an NPC, I left the area real quick to farm up some money or whatever only to come back and discover that the NPC was now permanently gone and there isnt another opportunity to get it

I dont think I ever completed the game

Team Buddies was a very fun but extremely rare and obscure game. You play against an enemy team on a battlefield, and your weapons and allies are created at your base using building blocks you find in the field. I had a demo disc with it that my siblings and I used to play the hell out of; I could never find the game in stores and I thought it got canceled until I discovered it was just very rare.

I'll just keep it to a handfull of recs. The PS1 is probably my favorite console.

Brave Fencer Musashi
Action adventure RPG thing from Sqauresoft. It's just a really fun, quirky, light-hearted game with real saturday morning cartoon/anime vibes.

Bushido Blade 1 and 2
Really cool and unique samurai fighting games with slower, more tactical combat, and with an emphasis on stances.

Omega Boost
Really technically impressive Star Fox style shooter with mechs, made by the developers of Gran Turismo. It's a real bummer they didn't branch out from GT more...

Thrasher: Skate & Destroy
A more technical sim-like skateboarding game compared to stuff like Tony Hawk. It also features an exclusively hip-hop soundtrack. Pretty niche for the time, and it still has a really unique feel to it.

The Unholy War
You've probably played the demo for this one that is just the mayhem mode with 4 characters. The full game has 14 characters and a strategy mode that is kinda like advance wars.
Better multiplayer, but has a single player campaign in strategy mode.

Yoyo's Puzzle Park
2d platformer. Use your blaster to stun enemies and then blow them up using the sentient bombs around the stage. 10 stages per area, each with a gimmick like being underwater or the stage rotating occasionally. Decent enemy variety and some nice power-ups to find.
Again, better in multiplayer but still good solo.

I had a lot of fun with OoT, but something about the world design just seemed too stage propish and fake looking to me. I noticed the same thing with parts of DQ8.

I don't know why it bothers me so much, but it takes me way out of the game when I see it. It makes me feel like I'm playing something a human made. Which is silly because obviously we made all this, but with other games they don't evoke that jarring feeling like I'm on someone's theatre stage.

I don't know if it's the low resolution texture smear of that gen console 3D or what, but somehow 2D games never had that lack of detail for me. Even when they obviously did in the 8-bit era with repeating textures to make things like oceans etc

I wish I could explain this better. I did really love OoT fishing though. I wish more fishing games were just like that.

I still have a pretty decent collection of demo discs.

The best ones were the Playstation Underground discs. Not only did they have demos but also trailers, "behind the scenes" videos, interviews, cheat codes, and save data, all with really nice packaging. Just really neat little time capsules.
