We go in, sit down, and order. Like 25 mins go by and no food. Then server comes over a re-confirms our order. Like he clearly forgot to give it to the cook. So we wait another 25 minutes to get our food.

Then when he brings our tickets, he charges me for a drink my friend ordered. He took it off when I asked, but still mildly annoyed. So I tipped $1, about 8%.

Fair?

Today I pull up the the first window at Mcdonald's to pay. The woke employee inside has his mask around his neck and just hands me my credit card back without saying a word. I proceed to the next window and as the window opens I immediately hear somebody say "I ain't going back to burger king." Then he just throws the bag at me and doesn't say anything. Afterwards I ended up on the toilet for an hour so not sure what they did to my food.

It's the employers job to pay the worker, not yours. It is only your responsibility to pay the cost of whatever you bought for what they originally charged you.

It's crazy Americans consumers are so accustomed to footing a company's payroll costs, and get more outraged when the consumer doesn't foot the bill.

You could have paid them nothing or $1 and it still would have been enough.

Tip because you want to, not because you think you have to.

I am a bartender, and if I forget to ring in somebodys order (doesnt happen often, but every once and awhile you miss a step) I do not expect a good tip.

I try hard for my customers, and I do that to try and make as much as possible from them. If I fuck up, Id expect less.

that's how tipping should work.

I don't understand. If no one tipped people would still do those jobs and the price wouldn't change.

My step father used to leave a penny on the table if service was bad.

A lot of servers cater to people who look like they have money and put them first even if they came in after you. I don't leave jack shit when that happens

That's more than what I would have tipped, tbh. The only exception is when they are clearly overwhelmed and understaffed.

Why tip for bad service? Tips are only supposed to be for outstanding service, not merely standard or less. Also its the employers job to pay their employees so you shouldnt be tipping even for outstanding service

I find it hard to believe they won't hire anyone to wait tables or sling drinks for minimum wage, but I also don't think restaurants are particularly stylish
