Does anyone know why moderns argue monotheism makes more sense than polytheism?

I'm Christian but more in the sense of believing their values of just being a good person rather than the silly stories. Sort of like this

Non-religious. I don't have "beliefs" about existence in the way religious people do. I'd love for some form of consciousness to exist beyond the body but I don't believe there has ever been proof of that yet, despite millenia of human advancement. And I abhor the idea of living my relatively short life to the rules of an arbitrary and eventually fleeting religion which have all been created by people; those seeking to understand things they cannot, those misinterpreting natural phenomena, those who wish for power over others, etc.

Yeah, death is scary and increasingly moreso as I age, but I don't want to live based on a book(s) that a bunch of dudes wrote before soap and sanitation existed. The way I'm communicating almost instantaneously across the globe with a handheld device would be beyond a miracle when the major world religions were formed. I have wondered if something like what we think of dark matter could actually be god, or a combination of music and the perception of time, weird shit like that. But as always, it's all just philosophy because we don't know.

I just try to understand that we have no idea what consciousness/existence after death actually is and be wary of those who act like they do, to generally treat people and animals well, and to maximize my happiness.

No. But I respect people that are and only use the end of it that's about treating people better and not giving into bad temptations

Probably because polytheism started coming back fairly recently in certain parts of the world. So monotheism is all most people know of, outside of myths and history class.

I'm agnostic. I went through an edgy atheist phase when I was younger but have grown to understand there are plenty of things about the universe and existence that we don't know, and at this point can't possibly begin to know.

no, but i believe the extant form of life itself is holy, and think everything on this planet that lives should be respected, trees and animals and moss and bugs and everything. every lived experience is worth something

I can relate. I consider myself an Athiest because I don't think any god that knowingly allows suffering on such a large scale should be worthy of our worship.

I don't worship any diety but believe in a creative force. The verdict is also still out on the supernatural, psychic phenomenon, extraterrestrials and cryptids.

Uncertain. I used to be strictly atheist for the longest time, but since I lost one of my good friends to covid... something changed. I didn't like to think that he was decomposing in the ground like he was nothing, such a sweet, pure, wholesome dude didn't deserve that fate.

I want to believe that somewhere beyond our possible understanding and comprehension, he's alright, telling jokes about his death, because that's the kind of person he was, always upbeat and cracking jokes even when things seemed bleak. He's definitely the type to joke about him being dead.
