And yeah, I've been putting it off, but I guess I need to finally check my 3DS and Wii U wishlists, check which games are not on the Switch (more of an issue with the Wii U), and decide what I want to buy.

I just realized that anyone who gets Fire Emblem Fates after the cutoff will forever be cut from the full game, as while Birthright and Conquest can be bought physically, Revelations can only be downloaded from Birthright or Conquest.

...Good thing I lost interest in playing Fates a while back.

At least 10 years, probably.

So, after March 2023, anyone who plays the 3DS games or earlier for the first time will have their Pokemon permanently stuck on those games...
Pokemon Sword/Shield has been out for over two years. The last 3DS game was released over 5 years ago. If you haven't transferred all your Pokemon by now, and you're upset by this news, then it's your own fault for waiting so long. Plus, you have a whole year to buy Pokemon Home and learn how to transfer them over.

The ability to link all gens should never be gone. They need to replace Bank with another option. This sucks.

HOME is the replacement, but it also serves as the branch for Bank to send its Pokemon over to it. Aside from Bank, HOME as of now only supports the Switch games.

Yes but Bank will be shut down. You don't seem to get that. I meant replace the ability to link all the gens. If bank dies, then put the old games on switch make up for it

I mean, let's be honest with ourselves. It isn't realistic to expect an evergreen solution that ensures universal compatibility across every generation of Pokemon.

The fact that GameFreak, of all companies, have manged to frankenstein an infrastructure together that lets you use your Blastoise from a 2004 playthrough of LeafGreen in a game from 2020 is remarkable in its own right.

But this rabid insistence on always having access to cartoon monsters you caught thirty years ago is unsustainable. Eventually even Home is going to run into issues with future gens that's going to require another "middleman" app.

Just let the past stay in the past. >_>

I've been saying it since the start. The switch should have had the option to cast to a television through an adapter at least for older consoles. It makes no sense that these E-Shops are shutting down with no option to get these games after the fact outside of buying used, or downloading roms, which takes time, and certainly won't be available for all the current Wii-U games for at least another couple years.

The E-Shop should be more like Steam in that regard. Even if I upgrade to a new computer, I still have access to all my games, and all the games steam sells, unless they take it off for some reason.

I just made a post with them saying it'll stay up free for an unspecified amount of time after the closure.

but not forever. It will likely be less than a year. That's why they are making it free. Because they make you pay by the year

Once it is no longer possible to purchase software in Nintendo eShop on Wii U and the Nintendo 3DS family of systems, many classic games for past platforms will cease to be available for purchase anywhere. Will you make classic games available to own some other way? If not, then why? Doesnt Nintendo have an obligation to preserve its classic games by continually making them available for purchase?
Across our Nintendo Switch Online membership plans, over 130 classic games are currently available in growing libraries for various legacy systems. The games are often enhanced with new features such as online play.

We think this is an effective way to make classic content easily available to a broad range of players. Within these libraries, new and longtime players can not only find games they remember or have heard about, but other fun games they might not have thought to seek out otherwise.

We currently have no plans to offer classic content in other ways.

lol Nintendo

The Switch service and Home won't last forever either. It's gonna be safe for at least 2 years right now.

what i am saying is they should plan ahead and have safety nets in place. Like as I keep saying, put gens 1 to 7 of pokemon on switch and eventually on the Switch successor system

I bought an eShop gift card yesterday and saw that Wii U was listed alongside 3DS and Switch. Thought to myself "jeez, who'd still be buying junk on that old pile of crap?"

Turns out the answer was nobody, or at least nobody past the end of March 2023.

That would mean Nintendo cares. They don't.
