Workers in Belgium will soon be able to choose a four-day week under a series of labour market reforms announced on Tuesday.
The reform package agreed by the country's multi-party coalition government will also give workers the right to turn off work devices and ignore work-related messages after hours without fear of reprisal.
"We have experienced two difficult years. With this agreement, we set a beacon for an economy that is more innovative, sustainable and digital. The aim is to be able to make people and businesses stronger," Belgian prime minister Alexander de Croo told a press conference announcing the reform package.

Because most states are right-to-work states and you can get fired for basically anything. It would be extremely difficult to prove that you were fired for not answering your phone on a Sunday.

If you work off the clock, it is overtime for salaried employees as well.

But of course, a bad employer will make you believe you are not entitled to that and threaten to fire you saying it is not approved.

Depends on the set up of the schedule. I worked 4 day work weeks and hated it almost as much as 5 because we worked 12s and wed only get 2 days off at a time because the 4 days would never be 4 in a row. It was exhausting.

Non-american countries can sometimes have not shitty labor laws that lets salaried employees get bonus pay.

As for my company they do offer compensation if you have to work a lot after hours. Usually don't do anything if you only work a few hours on the weekend or anything. If I have to crunch for a deployment they usually give us extra PTO or extra cash bonus.

Private gambling is illegal in a lot of states as well just fyi. I think there's also some places where public gambling like horse racing is legal but private poker games aren't.
