Until the second he appears on WWE television, I'm 100% convinced this is a work. In storyline, him "leaving" the company and coming back would eliminate the "I can never challenge for the AEW World Championship again" stipulation from his title match with Jericho in 2019, then he comes back as an absolute megaheel, wins the world title, and then eventually puts over one of the four pillars and makes them a megastar.
