Ya, it turns out he goes to The Troy Saving Bank music hall quite a bit, which I am surprised by.
Though I think he used to live in NYC...but I figured he spent most of his time in The Twin Cities area of Minnesota.

Edit: Also ya he is damn good.

Hehe, right?

Gotta say though, he is a Bach man, so he's alright by me.

As for why he would be at the Music Hall I mentioned it because it is considered to have perfect acoustics.

Ya, I grew up around that.
My Mom was in a...I don't know..Club...or group called, Pickin' and Singin'
I found myself all over the place as a kid.
Somewhere in Albany on time, and in the middle of the woods at some Friday the 13th camp place the next. Some random churches, probably in The Berkshires.
And then always Caffe Lena.~That's where it all got started for her.

I was probably exposed to some odd stuff, but overall I think it was good for me.
Sadly though, she actually passed in the night coming back from one such event.
She probably fell asleep at the wheel 'Just north of The Twin Bridges'

Ya, it was an awkward transition.
It's basically a totally different show now.

I hadn't listened to A Praire Home Companion in a while at that point.
But I did basically grow up on it. Great show in its time.

I even hear him in all sorts of non bluegrass stuff though. Like suddenly he's in a vulfpeck video or with the London Philharmonic playing bach. Mental.

how about the Goat Rodeo Sessions?

edit: gonna stray a bit off topic and highly recommend Billy Strings if you like some pickin'. LMK if you want recs. Sierra Hull is another top tier mandolin player.

I'm mostly just amazed at his ability to effortlessly flit through every genre of music like it's not a deal, on his strange little instrument. Who'd have thunk the mandolin could be so genre-versatile.

he took a lot of inspiration from Bela Fleck, who has been exploring the possibilities of the banjo for decades. he started doing the whole "recreate classical works" stuff a while ago. he's done a "jamband" (Bela Fleck and the Flecktones) too.

he even did some stuff with Thile. i saw them play a show, just them two, and it was *chefs kiss*

I discovered Bela Fleck through Victor Wooten. I'm not a huge fan of his music tbh but I respect his insane musicianship.
