Kinda weird to reference a show that ended ten years ago but I enjoyed it.

Kinda weird to reference one of the most revered shows of all time that just recently got a prequel movie?

Modern entertainment is entirely built on mining nostalgia. If something was popular 10-20 years ago, somebody is going to be trying to figure out a way to exploit it.

It's telling that the number one film at the box office right now is a remake of a film from 44 years ago that was based on a book from 85 years ago. And why the biggest movie the week before was Jackass - which was popular 20 years ago. And before that was Scream... the latest sequel in a franchise that hasn't had a film in 11 years.

And while the newest Matrix film kind of bombed, that's still another film sucking off nostalgia from 20 years ago.

There are no new ideas in Hollywood.

Really digged it, wonder if they paid any royalties to Soprano's producers or if they just got the actors, the song and the locations and did an end run around HBO.

Did they have any new ideas to begin with?

Ben Hur, famous movie, you probably have seen it; not only was it an adaptation of a book, it was also a remake of an earlier attempt to put in the silver screen.

I mean theres a lot of other franchises to reference that are a fresher and more audience-appealing part of the zeitgeist. How many do you know that went to see The Many Saints? I thought it was neat but I didnt exactly notice any huge buzz about it.

There's kind of a Sopranos interest resurgence after the movie. Apparently since it dropped, streaming of the series went up quite a bit on HBO. There may also be a sequel to The Many Saints of Newark since it did pretty well, and David Chase seems to be really interested in doing it with his old writing partner Terence Winter, going into Tony in his 20s.
