Posting a topic that is literally nothing but you advertising your twitch/youtube is not allowed, yes.

I feel like Ive definitely seen people post their own streams before, though its generally a come watch me play and not a follow my twitch. And I dont know what you were modded for and on what board. Whats fine on CE might not be elsewhere.

There's always been a distinction between putting it in your sig, vs actively drawing attention to it.

With that being said, if the stream isn't commercial in nature, I doubt it's a problem. I post links on a regular basis to my (or one other user's) Twitch channel - which I'll note neither have any commercial aspect to it, not even in the sense of "we run our own ads" - and have never been modded for it, pretty sure a mod's even posted in the topic at least once. This held true even during a short phase a while back where the mods were targetting me for some reason, so I'd definitely guess there's a detail you're leaving out here...

Yeah, that shouldn't have been modded then (again, assuming you don't run ads / have sponsorship / otherwise make money off your channel). I would say contest it, but we all know that no matter how unjustified the moderation was, overturns only happen when there's zero deniability even by interpreting the rules differently to how they're usually interpreted.

Might be worth asking on Hellhole. (If you aren't familiar with it, it's a dead board that's been repurposed into an "ask about your moderations" board that, while not official, is tolerated - and often responded to - by moderators.)

The issue isn't whether or not anyone wants to watch, it's whether or not he's allowed to share the link for people to ignore.

The truth of it is, if you want to advertise, you have to just make it part of the context of a conversation on GameFAQs.

Like, you could post a topic:

"I'm bored. Any CEmen wanna hang out on Twitch and play games?"

without any links in the OP. eventually post someone the link if they are interested, or DM interested people your link without advertising it.

I've also seen people plan some big stream project on CE, then eventually post a link or just make your twitch account the same name, and it's not a big deal.

The alternative is 50,000 links about "Hey bros check out my stream, i'm at the grind EVERYDAY #blessed" topics.

Now that I think about it, I'm also pretty sure I've linked to my LPs and stuff from time to time in the past too (as in similar to how you did it, but with LPs instead of streams), and don't recall ever being modded for it. Again though - these have never been for-profit in any way (whether ads, sponsorship, or pay-to-watch), just a general "hey I'm doing this for fun, you can watch if you want".

I wonder if the mod mistakenly thought you were profiting off yours? That's really the only thing I can think of, as I'm sure it's always been okay to create a single topic (ie: not spamming it everywhere) as long as you're not making money off it.

1. There arent even 2,000 active users across the entire website, let alone CE, so that is bullshit.

Yeah, then that's bullshit and, at least under what I understand the rules to always have been, this should not have been moddable. Definitely query it on Hellhole (you'll just get yourself moderated if you try on MBH or Ask The Mods, and you probably won't get a mod reply here).

The money you don't make from it means nothing. All unknowns start out making no money until they get enough viewers to do so. Also your post sounds like a straight up ad so yeah fair next

Except that whether you're making money off it or not, has literally been what mods have in the past claimed is the deciding factor in whether you can share your channel (beyond a passive sig link) / etc.
