as donuts from a donut shop? Both are baked fresh daily, but the donut shop's quality is always way better.

Refuse to buy grocery store donuts. My local grocery stores put them in the self serve display. Seen all kind of bugs flying in there.

Because for the most part grocery stores get them "pre-made" and frozen, so all they're doing on-site is actually baking them. So while they're "fresh" they're not "fresh fresh".

Specialty stores have more time to perfect their recipe. They also don't leave their donuts out in the display for half a day. Usually its left for 1-2 hours before being replaced.

If you were familiar with Tim Hortons you would know your premise is faulty, they basically have the worst, stalest, icing causing teeth pain-iest donuts imaginable

at least safeway or whatevers donuts were made fresh in the bakery

I'm pretty sure he's talking about real local donut shops, not chain stores that are pretty much the same as the grocery.

the only thing baking wise you should buy from a grocery store is a mix and make it at home pre made stuff is bad and overpriced

well idk about that though, Vancouver has a pretty great food scene, and theres great donut shops centred around downtown, but they're kind of a novelty that you go to on the weekend and post the donut to instagram

yeah, I'd rank them above grocery store donuts as well. But I also think grocery store donuts are pretty decent

basically:

hipster cool donut shop > krispy kreme > grocery store > timmies

cake donuts from all these establishments taste the same, if you prefer cake to yeast donuts, you might as well get the cheap shit

grocery donuts are good around here. i don't like the cake very much (they add too much frosting) makes it too sweet.

they haven't made em as much since the pandemic started going on 3 years now.

sad part about specialty shops is they are so bloody expensive. I remember my aunt was going to order half a dozen and it came to close to 40 dollars Canadian. Would probably be cheaper but its one of the few places in the province that makes specialty donuts.

Donut store ones are probably fresher.

I've made my own a few times and they're much, MUCH nicer fresh than they are the next day, no matter what you do to store them in the "best" way or anything like that.

as bad as people complain about Tims, I still have a place in my heart for their Apple Fritters, Iced Capps and French Toast Bagels. Also their coffee. I know people say Mcds is better, but there's just something off about Mcds coffee where I live.

The apple fritters at my local grocery store is way better than Timmies. The iced cap is about the only thing I agree with you there.

The one good thing about covid; those kinds of food are now sold in smaller containers, rather than keeping them in the open for anyone to come along and cough on (or worse)

They still have them like that? Locally they stopped doing this in favor of selling them in little boxes of 2 donuts. No more self-service. Unfortunately.
