It seems like arguably most of our problems seem to come from that dude's time in office.

And all those reasons are why people pretend he was a good president.

Every time a person that was on TV or movies gets elected to the presidency things really get fucked up.

The stuff Reagan did is stuff that is hurting us now but didn't have a major impact while he was in office, so they remember him fondly and blame the outcome of his policies on others.

The tax breaks for the rich were a bit over the top and the loopholes created have seriously hurt this country. You can't straight up blame Reagan though since so many other Presidents (of both sides) have had endless opportunities to end them and close the loops, but have not done so, even while having full control of congress.

Most of the other crap he did was short term or didn't have that big of an impact, but we are basically in as much debt as we are because of the tax cuts etc he created, and the fact nobody has yet reversed them.

Worse, now to deal with the issue would require an extreme change which could easily make other countries more appealing to large corporations than the US. If there had been a slow change over time, to just below what is available elsewhere, then the companies would stay here (or be less likely to leave at least).

While Reagan did some stuff that wasn't great, he did things that aligned with his political agenda and made his constituents happy over all. What doesn't make sense to me is why future presidents didn't change things (like Obama during his first 2 years for instance, but just one example).

Bush Jnr certainly wasn't great either, but then again neither was Clinton, Obama or I'd say Biden now. I honestly have not been seriously impressed by ANY president in the last 30 years (since I was voting basically) and so singling one out at this point is just saying one bad president is a bit worse than the rest. Our two party system causes any sitting president to be sabotaged by the other party and just does not work. Anything good a president somehow manages to actually do while in office is immediately attacked and sabotaged by the other party as soon as they leave office.

I would say it's not our Presidents that have been bad, but the system itself, but the presidents have been bad as well and certainly have contributed (possible partially due to the way we elect them and how much power corporations etc have over that process.) We don't even really have a choice over who we vote for, we just get a few options (mostly funded by extremely wealthy or corporations, and get to choose between zorg or zarg (or whatever those simpsons aliens are called).

Yeah, we could vote for a Bearnie but like Zarg says, we'd just be throwing our votes away.

Heck from what I remember he initiated the war on drugs (which was totally wacked and still is) and certainly something you can blame him for. He didn't start the crack cocaine epidemic and as someone who grew up in the projects across this country from the 70's and through the 80s, I can testify that crack cocaine didn't start the drug problems there. It did make things worse, but it certainly wasn't something I would lay at the feet of the president. There are many things to blame him for, and the war on drugs was done in totally the wrong way (And still is, but at least some states are finally becoming sane), but yeah, I don't believe he was secretly behind the walls of the white house going "heh heh, heh heh, how can I get poor people to take drugs and then throw them in prison to use them like slaves".

I'm not a fan of Reagan, but I also don't think he was a total evil devil, he just was a corporate/rich sell out like most politicians and he basically did what his supporters wanted or what he thought was best for them. His supporters (the ones that mattered) where the rich and business owners so that is what he focused on.

He didn't win in a landslide by accident
