Just finished watching it for the first time and it was actually kind of boring. The pacing wasn't that good, music sucked, story was barebones, action was meh (literally just people running away and getting shot), special effects was meh (those machines and jets looked legit like a toy), acting was very meh (except Arnie; he was great!), virtually no dialogue, and even the romance seemed so random and forced.

I hope Terminator 2 is better, but I doubt it since it's rated worse on RT.

I'm surprised any movie has a perfect score on that site. The movie is good, but I'd say mid 90's as a score would be more accurate.

That just means everyone gives it a passing score, not that it's perfect.

I like it more than the second

You have to think more of it in its time frame and what was available/comparable.

I watched a movie called Hell Drivers with super sped up footage of dumptrucks. It looked stupid as hell in 2022, but that's what they did in 1957. So comparing it 1:1 to something from the last 5 years is hard. Does that make it automatically bad/cheap? no, it's just from a different time and that's what worked.

I don't blame you if you 'don't get it' for reasons.

T2 is leagues better. Just the Cyberdine raid alone always gives me goosebumps. Such a amazing action movie.

Oh yeah, something I noticed while watching the Wizard of Oz a like 2 months ago. You can totally see the backdrop/floor seam. Like when they're approaching Emerald City you can see a shadow of the corner, so they're just skipping at an image on the wall.

Looks lulz now, but that's just how it went.

Terminator 1 is absolutely a great film. Of course special effects from 40 years ago don't look convincing today. Terminator 2 is one of the best films ever made, and I don't know what to tell you if you don't like it.

Nostalgia goggles is pretty heavy on terminator 2. It's not really a good movie. It's got some good action and the hospital scene is iconic as fuck but the story is massive cheese

People thought The Empire Strikes Back was trash when it came out, decades later it's the best thing ever, in a few decades, The Last Jedi will take it's place as the best thing ever.

T2 might be the more popular "classic" but in absolutely no way was it a better movie than the first Terminator.

Can you argue that it does certain key things a little better like a couple of action scenes and special effects? Sure.

But a better movie altogether? Hell. Fucking. No.

T1 is more thought out, more tense (in general), less insulting to the audience, better acted out, and I would even argue better edited in terms of scene to scene transitions than anything else produced in the franchise or series as a whole. Fuck outta here with that T2 is better nonsense.

To be fair though: T2 is still a fun movie that's a great ride in general. A better follow-up, I don't think you could have ever expected considering the direction hollywood was starting to move in.

amazing how many ppl dont understand how RT works. 100% doesn't mean it got a perfect score. it's the percentage of people who gave it a certain score that deemed it watchable (3.5/5 iirc). it means everyone thought that it was at least a 3.5/5 movie, not that everyone thought it was a 5/5 movie

What year are we in?

The Terminator became THE Template for aspiring filmmakers looking to make their big break without the kinds of connections Lucas had, and serves a similar purpose for aspiring actors (and actresses) looking to make a BIG impression without ending up being typecasted. Cameron not only helped establish himself and Arnie' with that film, but also showed the world how one can update old special effects techniques to resounding effect by dressing them in contemporary colors, and using contemporary sounds, all under a unifying theme to justify their existence within the plot. EVERYBODY liked that movie. The punks. The white picket fences. The cops. The conspiracy nuts. The execs.

You can't tell me we all didn't go into T3 without a little faith based on the expectations established in the first one.

Heck, it's arguably Schwarzenegger's only truly serious role, where he had to do more than sit there & simply be himself for the most part. He practically built his career on that film alone. Not Conan. Terminator. It's aggressive. It's sexy. It's gritty. It's fun. The undercurrents in Terminator are directly responsible for the cult following that became established around everything from Predator to RoboCop to Alien II and even the popularity of H.R. Giger's beloved biomechanical designs.

The Terminator is kind of the ultimate crown jewel cornerstone tying this meta dream we share of all these horror monsters and sci-fi creatures co-inhabiting the same space & time, in our minds, until we got older, and the comics & games caught up, and we tried it & sat there ourselves & said, "See?".... "This works."

"It's aggressive. It's sexy. It's gritty. It's fun."

"This is what I was imagining in the first place."

The first one isn't really an action movie, so if you expect one it probably feels jarring.

I liked Terminator 2 much better. Acting was still cringey (except for Arnie and T1000), but it was much more entertaining. My mind was blown when Arnie was the good guy, and also really liked the story of "father and son" better (like Arnie can learn and stuff).

eh I'm a t1 guy...it more of a horror/ thriller and Arnie as the baddie I think is better.

but ya opinions...

I was going to go with Terminator 3 later tonight. RT has it at 69%, but I liked Terminator 2 better and that had a more worse RT rating... maybe Terminator 3 will be even better for me lol.

Terminator 2 deserves 1000%.... I say that because between the ages of 4 and 8 I watched it almost every day as it was the only VHS I had.

T3 sucks. It's not as horrifically bad as Salvation or Genesys, but it's the beginning of the end. Going PG13 was a mistake they wouldn't recover from until the return to form Dark Fate.

Congratulations! Youve completed the Terminator movies.

The only thing left worth watching is the Sarah Connor Chronicles.

Because it's a classic.

I think the main issue here is that you're wrong about basically everything.

The thing about Terminator 1 is that it's more of a slasher fic in the guise of a scifi thriller, and not an action movie much at all.
Also, its theme tune is incredible, so your opinion of the music sucking is patently invalid.

Because Terminator is more sci-fi horror whereas T2 is all action. Dont get me wrong, both excellent, but the first edges out just a bit in terms of how gritty and terrifying it can be.

I thought it was unintentionally really funny. I never get motivated to watch it again though or look at the sequels
