This is... by far the most random news I've ever heard. That guy who was the voice in metal gear solid games, is wanting to make a tv show, about that crappy alice video game that had potential but was kinda terrible (talking about the first game) with a sequel that was kinda boring (madness returns) for some reason?

And it was always weird to me that they specify "american mcgee" like literally who. That was a weird short lived trend in 90s western gaming where american developers would put their name in the game and try to make it about them instead of the company or game. It would be like saying iwata's wii sports or Shigeru's Mario raving rabbids Or satoshi's pokemon.

Why though?

To American McGee's credit, I believe it was the publisher's (EA? I think?) decision to put his name on it like that since he was still something of a rock star in the industry.

American McGee is the actual name of the guy behind the games. Like Sid Meier's Civilisation games, he has his name on the games.

Amusingly, American McGee isn't a fan of America at all.

People who want to see a dark take on Alice in Wonderland. I have never played rhe games but I know it takes the story and makes everything all fucked up. Alice has to escape a mental asylum I think. And she kills twisted Wonderland creatures with a knife I believe

It's not a dark take, Alice was always a dark story that Disney turned into for babies.

And I'm interested in seeing how it turns out. I'm betting big bucks it'll be shit though.

It's not really about being dark, the books were always more acerbic of politics and social conventions of the time than you would imagine for an otherwise children's book, which was surprising.

But otherwise yeah the idea of "Alice in Wonderland but dark!" was still a mildly novel idea in 2000 sure, right after tv shows and movies were doing darker takes on it in the decades previous. But since then it's become a rather trite and tired cliche to make "seemingly innocent children's media" dark and morbidly depressing.

Yeah, through the 90s and early 2000s, the folks on the original id Software team were big names in the industry, even after leaving. Some, like John Romero and the other folks who went off to form Ion Storm, basically crashed and burned, but folks like American McGee just gradually stepped out of the limelight.
