Fun fact: when that particular bridge was removed for renovation back in 2017, the city council had pledged the bridge would never be removed again.

It is movable, but Bezos' ship is so large, it cannot fit under the bridge, even when it's completely lifted.

They wouldnt have built it there to begin with without Rotterdam having already approved the bridge alteration.

So they clearly know this is a problem and have decided this is the PR solution.

When 99.999% of ships that have ever passed through there have had no issue with it, I think it's more fair to criticize the shipyard for building a ship too big to get out without dismantling a bridge

Having an old landmark straddling the entrance to your shipyards is dumb.

I'm guessing that was the best place to build the yard, the best place to build the bridge, and that it lifts high enough to accommodate every other ship built there before now.

I don't see where the problem is. People will get paid to do this, they did it just a few years ago.

His superyacht is the world's biggest sail boat (I know it will still use engines). Hell look at some of the yachts Sheiks and the other super rich have.

First of all, massive LOL. Secondly, you can't have millionaires or billionaires without creating poor people. Capitalism is a zero-sum game, and wealthy people can't gain that wealth without other people going without. If you don't see how someone who causes countless other people to be poor is a bad thing, that's a you problem.

i don't really want to completely derail this topic to go on a rant about why i dislike that, but in summary:

• he couldn't have earned that wealth without the work of tens of thousands of others who earn a fraction of what he does.
• he couldn't have earned that wealth without the trillions of dollars worth of infrastructure his company uses to profit.
• it's obscene to me that he makes like 3000x the amount of the actual workers do.
• taxpayers subsidize profits for companies like Amazon when their employees are so underpaid they qualify for welfare / food stamps / etc, which is absolutely fucked.

i dont really feel like getting into a big debate over this, just summarizing my thoughts.
