i would only do that under one circumstance. the earth was becoming inhospitable that i needed to get onto that trip to live.

The only way I'd go to mars is if it was already colonized and the dangers of space travel had been minimized to the point where it no more dangerous than a flight.

Ive thought about this hypothetical a lot before. No matter how risky Im sure it will be, it just seems so fascinating. Then again, Ive always been pro-space travel.

Just being stuck on the ship on the way there is already a nightmare scenario.

I have to imagine, of all the crew that get put on that thing, at least one will lose their mind part way their and potentially divert the ship and/or get everyone killed in the process.

On conditions, assuming that whoever is sending me to Mars REALLY wants me specifically to go.

1: My wife will have everything she needs provided to her for comfortable living until she either divorces me or dies.
2: All of my needs regarding transgender services will be met and fully paid for prior to leaving for Mars, with adequate recovery time.
3: My daughter will have permanent housing provided to her in a non-military residential area of her choosing, as well as a permanent automatic basic income of $2000 a week provided to her tax free, adjusted for inflation twice a year.

With those things agreed to, honestly what would I need to be on this planet for anymore?

I don't want to die an early death.

Neat in concept, but what it means in practice is spending the rest of my life without luxuries, and doing hard farm work into old age.

Hard work is one thing, but I can always go rest and play video games and eat good food. You won't have any of that on Mars.

I actually did sign up to be a Mars colonist, knowing that it would be a one-way trip.

I was disqualified because I don't have 20/20 vision.
