And what of the people that simply just took OTC medicines and rested for a week, then came out fine? Are they spreading misinformation, too?

Ughhh.

Rogan is the most dangerous idiot in America right now. 6 months ago Id have called everyone in this thread a crybaby, but holy shit, Alt Right Joe Rogan became the reality.

I dont see what Im supposed to forgive or not forgive.

Near as I can tell, Rogan didnt apologize for whatever he said. He said he was sorry that Spotify was taking heat and he would try to balance out the guests. As usual, he admitted hes not an expert on these matters. Rogan is not a doctor and never claimed to be one, so if youre taking medical advice from him or pretty much any podcast I dont think its going to work out well for you.

Speaking of someone who deals with the ramifications of misinformation daily, misinformation gains gravitas when it is actively pronoted by news networks or people like Rogan. Many people are willing to dismiss stuff they read on the internet, but when that stuff is also promoted by the "news" it then becomes more legitimate to these people.

But worse, Fox News and Joe Rogan both have a general theme of "reporting the truth they don't want you to know" and because of this narrative, healthcare workers are now lumped in with "they" even though they really shouldn't be.

It doesn't matter, his listeners think he tells the "real truth." In the same way that Trump supporters think he describes a reality more "real" than Reuters or Associated Press.

If legitimate news agencies say something that's different than what Rogan says, it's because they're in cahoots with Big Pharma. Just like anytime something goes wrong with Trump, it's antifa and BLM teaming up with the "mainstream media."

Strangely enough, I know a couple people that did defer from get the vaccine because (in their words) "I listen to Joe Rogan to get a variety of information from all sides". There are also lots of other anecdotal examples out on the web, and more importantly decades of research on how repeated exposure to soft challenging statements shifts a person's mindset. I never said anything about your vaccination status, why did you bring it up?

Let me break this down a bit
A) Believing in something like vaccine efficacy is a process - it's not Yes/No. You can start off skeptic and then (intentionally or otherwise) find things that reaffirm your belief. THIS is what Joe is contributing to.
B) Trump is brought up as a parallel example of how this works - lots of people, even some on CE, have family members that might have had misgivings about immigrants/African Americans/liberals. Listening to Trump's statements over the years made them harden those beliefs to paranoia.

A) I mean it's our claims versus yours. You claim "NOBODY has been influenced by Rogan" versus our claim of knowing some people (especially since she is an ER doctor), our claims seem a bit more plausible.
B) Plus as I mentioned the decades of research in social psychology showing how gradual misinformation builds and hardens a viewpoint.

Most people, intentionally are otherwise, do separate what they consider to be credible sources of information from non-credible sources. The problem is that people like Rogan and Hannity have a tendency to promote non-credible stories while still retaining the credibility afforded to network/syndicated news.

The problem is not inherently with talking to these people

the problem is Rogan does not have the intelligence or desire to challenge the views of anyone who comes on his show, so functionally hes just giving fringe views a microphone and giving them the exact same levels of credibility as everyone else

the idea that he just wants to bro out with everyone is baked into his show, which is why its a problem when he hosts neo-nazis
