It's almost never Lyme. And worse, 99% of the time when a patient tells me they have Lyme disease, it was a naturopath or non-physician that diagnosed it using bogus lab studies. So there's a deeper stigma about that which is sad, but kind of unavoidable.
Lol. Yeah, I have an ex best friend / ex girlfriend (and yes both things are "ex" because we stupidly mixed that up) who insists she has Lyme disease, which was diagnosed by some naturopath. She also got Covid advice from her. Sigh.

The thing is, chronic lyme disease is a real thing, but extremely rare. Lyme disease is actually caused by a bacterial tick borne illness, and naturopaths love to order Lyme IgG antibody titers, because they're elevated in nearly everyone and completely non-diagnostic, and generally meaningless. The only official way to diagnose lyme disease is dark field microscopy. And it is curable with antibiotics, not quack remedies.

Naturopaths are the absolute worst, because they know just enough that they can easily fool people who know nothing about medicine.

All I'll add to this topic is that there are some people out there who genuinely need the level of pain relief that opioids provide to manage their chronic pain. And the past decade or so has been a neverending nightmare for them.

This is true, however what we have discovered in the past few decades is that opioids actually worsen your sensation of pain over time due to the way your body adapts to the presence of opioids. You can eventually become so dependent on opioids that simply not taking them results in pain even if there's no reason to have pain. And that's a really big problem that we need to learn how to fix.

It's not the person taking the medication who is at fault, though. And that's what really bothers me about the narrative regarding opiates. People who take opiates aren't criminals (usually). They are people with pain.
