What good argument could someone even make in a span of like 3 minutes? There was no discussion to be had. All it was was the smug host trying to insult the dude. And so what if he walks dogs and would like to teach? And he's 30? So what? Plenty of people all ages are stuck doing gig work. Let's say you got a good-looking dude on there with a good job and stable life. Then they'd be like "so what do you have to complain about??" I swear in the US everyone is just so hung up over the most meaningless things.

I'll agree that the dude never should have gone on to begin with because you can't win going on something like Fox--no matter who it was or what they said they'd find 800 reasons why it has "discredited the entire movement".

First of all the mod turns up looking like a lazy slob. Didn't even make up their bed for the camera. Already giving a bad first impression. 99% of people know to make a bigger effort for a job interview but an interview on television just isn't worth the effort apparently.

Secondly while the first question answered was loaded the mod spends a complete 45 seconds rambling with no interruptions that they're not against work but against feeling trapped at work and not feeling respected. Uses the movie Office Space as a reference during this ramble.

Fox News man says you applied to the job and can walk away whenever and doesn't understand what the movement is about other than encouraging people to be lazy. Instead of focusing on workers rights and power dynamics the mod instead focuses on laziness being a virtue in a society that expects you to work 24/7(?) and that you shouldn't have to be expected to work all of the time.

Fox News man asks what an ideal work shift is per day. This is when the mod pivots this question to their own life and says they work 20-25 hours a week (which turns out is probably a lie) dog walking.

The problem here is the mod is out of their element in every single way. This person has never known what it is like to be forced to overwork to support a family. There's no substance from the moderator at all.

Fox News could have said absolutely nothing and the same point would have been made.

You've hit the nail of why the antiwork subreddit is such a fucking joke. The large majority of popular content is from people making up stories about talking back to middle management at their part time job.

I actually know one of the mods from one of those whiny service worker subreddits IRL. She's like 35 and still lives with her parents.

I think it says something about people who deride that sub so much. Even if some of the stories are made up or exaggerated, the general idea of it is sound. Really though, I feel like a lot if not most of those who are mad about the fake stories really aren't mad because of the fake stories.

Entertainment, decor, toys, etc. are only one part of what workers do.

Medical sectors, education, construction, policing, court systems, vehicle manufacturing, raw materials acquisition, tech development, energy production/ distribution, etc etc etc

Literally every service in every sector of life requires enormous manpower to sustain. If you wanna take issue with part time retail work, whatever. But to say that "most jobs are bullshit" just speaks of a deep misunderstanding of the amount of work being done every single day in every single field in every single nation on the planet.

Also... imagine life without cheap plastic trinkets. Without collectibles. Without artwork. We have those things for a reason, and they exist because people want them.

I think this is an issue any politically focused Reddit group has. The important people are going to be the stereotypical Reddit users because they're the ones that spend most of their time on there and base their entire persona around who they are on the internet and the power they have over subreddits. Gradually getting worse and worse as echo chambers validate their opinions and beliefs.

If people are just embellishing or exaggerating a bit of a real story then I'm fine but straight up making up a fake ass stories doesn't help the movement. You shouldn't have to lie like that to help the cause.

You're overestimating the percentage of actually useful jobs in those sectors. Policing? Seriously? Think of all the worthless administrators in the medical and education sectors. A lot of energy production is in service of shit we wouldn't need to bother with if we'd simply reduce the routine bullshit. Oil prices tanked when so many people stopped commuting. Office buildings were left empty as many could simply work from home.

"Tech development" is hilarious. Lots of multi-billion-dollar apps that do little but provide minor conveniences at major costs. Life would be better without a lot of these unnecessary things, actually, because it'd mean we wouldn't structure society around ridiculous full-time work and we'd have more of the most precious resource of them all: time.

The dude is lazy. Working 10 - 15 hours a week as a dog walker, and that's all you are doing, is lazy.

There are definitely more of people like him in this "antiwork" movement.

Automation of many jobs is coming already when that time comes I think people should get a UBI. Start there. I think that sub reddit raised some very VERY good points and fox news rushed to discredit it. That sub was positive and seemed to foster good creativity.

Funny thing is I don't think he's employed because a common scam these days is being offered a job as a dog walker, so he could twist that receiving offers equals having the job.
