i got my first job at age 14. my primary motivators to work were, in order: weed, a car. before that, i mowed lawns around the neighborhood for money. it's easy for kids to get cash.

If all drugs were legal, why buy herion when you can just get some OTC oxy instead? I think most junkies would rather stay away from the needles if they had the choice.

at 13 a kid being a washout or underachiever is squarely on the parents and authority figures in this kids life

I never understood why people of any age actively choose to do drugs. It's like you're paying money to contribute to your death or fuck up the only body that you have.

While others who are born with physical disabilities, the war injured could only dream of having a complete body to function and actually care for their bodies

Because drug education largely focuses on teaching just that drugs are bad and you should stay away from them

but alcohol and marijuana are legal and can be safely used

and lsd, mdma, psychedelics in general are safe, recreactional, and nonaddictive

and meth, fentanyl, and opioids are medicinally legal

so the education teaches it as a black and white issue when there are many shades of gray. So you have kids trying things based on the knowledge that *certain* drugs are safe in *certain* situations without all the real information

drug education functions basically the same way as abstinence only sex education: it doesnt work at all because it assumes kids are going to make choices that they simply arent going to
