I stand strongly with the core message of that subreddit and I myself have suffered bad bosses, bad corporate work ethics and everything but I'm seeing a ton of shit on that subreddit that's just fake as fuck, and it's not even funny. This kinda shit is counter productive to the movement.

I had to leave that subreddit about half a year ago, I am with you I agree with their message but it just made me too cynical and jaded. I could barely make it through a work week without getting angry

Yesterday at work there was a guy with a gun threatening people at the hotel next door. I was told by my manager to lock the place down. But also told me to unlock the door for anyone that shows up... So, what's the point of locking it then? To make me open the door for him? So stupid.

Any sub that's dedicated to user made stories is basically r/thathappened

It's hard to say, I've worked for two very stupid manufacturing in Missouri in the last 22 years. There are very stupid people and very stupid policies out there.

Of course but some of the stories on the subreddit is just bum fucking stupid and unbelievable.

I loved the one about a manager that took the worker's lunch from her desk and just ate it for no reason, and her coworkers explained that's just how it works at their office. The comments act like the most outlandish stories are real.

Like the place I work for literally fired half the company based off industry projections in march of 21 during COVID, and then by July was begging people to come back and forcing us to work mandatory 60 hour weeks. Like they bought out old workers who were close to retirement, then later offered to let them come back part time.

Yes the boss literally said all this and all the workers all decided to quit together lmao. That subreddit was the forefront of the Kelog's protest but it's reduced to fake stories.

Ok, so true story here. I work in manufacturing, as I said above. We are allowed to eat at our work stations, chips, pretzels, shit like that. Co-worker has an unopened bag of chips sitting on his table. Plant manager walks up, opens the bag of the chips, then proceeds to stand there and eat them while telling the guy to do something. Coworker goes "what the hell man, this ain't fucking feed my people get out of chips".

Plant manager gets pissed, goes and tells the line supervisor "put that guy on a shitty job and ride him". So he puts the guy on a shitty job and dude ends up quitting by the end the week because they keep bitching at him for not hitting his production quota on a job that they didn't train him on because they were pissed at him for bitching about a dude eating his chips.

The amount of super dumbshit I've witnessed is almost unbelievable.

i agree with the message that r/antiwork send, but there's no actual solution. what's the alternative? not work? you need to work to make money, and you need money to survive

Agree. I also support the movement, but I had to block it from my front page. Just reads like a bunch of wish fulfilment or whatever.

I worked for a company that processed payroll for thousands of small to medium sized businesses across the country, and spoke with many of the owners throughout the years

I was shocked at how fucking dumb so many of them were. Like how the hell did you make it to the point in life where youre running a successful business while being this stupid

See, like that's what I'm saying. This absolutely fucking happened. People really don't understand the amount of stupid or shady shit that goes on, especially in blue collar labor work environments.

This same plant manager did eventually get fired because he was sexually harassing a chick who saw a chance for a payday, recorded him, and then took it to HR. She settled out of court for an undisclosed amount of money and he got fired.

GameFAQS is nowhere as ridiculous as Twitter and modern Reddit these days.

There's always gonna be fables spun on the internet. It doesn't detract from the message for me, which is that workers get shit on, disrespected, worked till they burn out and yet make up many of society's essential functions.

A few bullshit posts in the grand scheme of things don't matter much. If it did cause you to disregard the message you probably weren't about it to begin with.

i'm cool with people sharing their stories about their shitty bosses or their bad work experience, i just don't understand what the solution is supposed to be. not everyone lives with their parents or has some kind of financial assistance. not everyone can just quit their jobs. what point is r/antiwork trying to make?
