to cite being overweight as unhealthy?

Im seeing more and more people speak of obesity as if theres nothing wrong with it, and as if criticizing it is fatphobic. Thats very delusional and harmful rhetoric.

Theres a difference between looking down on fat people, and saying that being fat isnt ideal for healthiness.

There's a lot of words that people attach "phobic" to the end of to shut down conversation immediately. It works too.

I don't agree with right wing grifters on much but I think this is a thing and a very dishonest, cowardly way to approach a topic.

It's really not. Only some very delusional fat people act like that.

it's just you whining about fat people trying to feel comfortable in their own skin. you aren't doing this in good faith for fat people's health at all.

I think it has to do with some people not having control over their weight due to medical or genetic reasons. Obesity isnt always about habits like drugs or alcohol. However, I do believe many people hop on this train to justify their bad eating habits and take advantage. But, fat shaming is a bad way to go about it.

It really should be that easy.

"fat" is not a medical term. it's subjective. "obese" has an objective medical definition, and it's based on BMI, which has very little correlation with overall health

To be fair the BMI index does a great disservice for people that are naturally muscular. Not all weight above the average is fat.

To gain clarity on why the notion that being overweight is harmless seems to be gaining traction. But now I have a new question: Why did you assume I made this topic just to judge fat people? You realize you inadvertently posited that only fat people have this erroneous belief, right?

Its because people cant separate facts (obesity leads to higher rates of heart disease, diabetes, etc) from personal attacks/public shaming.

This isnt limited to obesity, of course. People take facts as personal attacks on all sorts of things (smoking, drinking, guns, unprotected sex, etc)

Honestly we are on track to the point of nobody saying anything for fear of being cancelled or criticised way to go snowflakes. You win.

Yes, that sounds about right. How unfortunate, too, because it makes productive discussion damn-near impossible.

TC I dont think the pro-fat movement is really a mainstream approach. Its not really controversial to point out that being overweight is generally bad for ones heath.

Only a few people are actually doing this. Most are fully aware it is unhealthy, they just don't want you screaming FAT FUCKING SLOB at them and making them feel worse and even less able to help themselves.

Exactly. This topic is disingenuous. Nobody really gets upset at people saying being overweight can be unhealthy. But that's not usually how it goes. What people get upset at is folks being a-holes and insulting, which is how it usually goes.

Overweight people are one of the last groups you can still openly mock and make blanket negative moral assumptions about. Many people on CE have shown a pathological hatred for them. That's a far bigger problem and probably contributes more to continued obesity than a few people just trying not to feel like shit and taking it too far.

there's a lot of weight behind the body positive movement, please don't mock it.

This is such an incredibly small fraction of overweight people that it's hardly ever actually worth mentioning with regard to this subject.

People need to understand how these things are created. Saying someone overweight is unhealthy is fine. The thing is the fatphobic nonsense started because of assholes who would say things like who is the whale in that photo?! I cant believe youre dating a fat chick!etc etc, and when people try to call that out theyre met with oh stop being so PC you snowflake!thus, it crates needless animosity. If they just said yea calling them a whale was wrong but they should be more healthy it wouldnt have gotten this far. But some people dont want to admit their own contribution to the problem.
