Was supposed to go to a friends Christmas party last night and decided not to, despite being fully vaccinated and boosted.

My friends made fun of me for bailing, but I just dont feel comfortable with the contradicting articles I'm seeing about whether or not its less severe.

Anyone else?

I specifically got my booster shot for a Christmas party

turns out it's on Christmas Eve and not Christmas Day, and I won't be able to make it anyway >_>

No, but that's because thankfully we don't have any omicron cases in the community in my country yet. So we should be safe for Christmas.

It's way too early to be able to reliably say anything about severity. We're only just starting to see the uptick in hospitalisations in places with really high quality data (Denmark, UK), and some of that was starting before omicron anyway.
Realistically, it takes like 4 weeks after diagnosis for most covid deaths. So it's always going to *seem* mild before that if you aren't looking at the data properly.

I'm just getting together with a small group of family, all of whom are vaccinated, so im not too concerned.

Christmas day get together with my cousins, and external family. With a relative just passing away recently. It's definitely a good thing to have right now.

I'm boosted and gonna take a rapid test before I go to my parents.

Not even a consideration, honestly. Everyone is pretty vaxed and the ones that arent are grown adults or at trivial risk to covid

My mom's having people at her house. It will be a nice day out, so I'll probably hang out in the backyard with a mask on and keep my distance. Don't have anything aside from that planned.

Your friends sounds like idiots and I know this sounds harsh but you can laugh at them in the hospital

Not for omicron specifically, but just in general, I'm not doing any large gatherings because of Covid. I went to Universal Studios and the movies with friends while cases were low. But now cases are back up, so it's only work and home for the time being. My family's not doing a large gathering for Christmas, so I'm not missing anything.

Never made plans in the first place because duh.

No, but canceled going out to watch Spider-Man though, don't need to be in a room full of people right now, that's just asking for it. At least my whole family is fully vaccinated, but I have a 1 and 2 y.o nephew, so can't risk them. Will wait like 3 weeks and catch a 11am show on a Tuesday.
