what a great game... some bullet pts:

• good level design, I don't think there was a single section of the game I wouldn't want to replay. maybe house beneviento since that area probably isnt as fun once you know the puzzles/scares/etc. good pacing too

• combat was fun but I felt like it never really escalated, there were never any crazy fights like in RE4 or something. the hardest moment in the entire game is that village fight in the very beginning. worst the game would throw at you was like two of those chainsaw arm guys and they died very fast. i was waiting for some room where i'd have to fight 200 werewolves, chainsaw guys, giants, etc but it never happened.

• this is arguably the dumbest plot i have seen in a AAA video game in years, the major reveal at the end of the game (ethan is a mold monster) is common sense shit that 99% of players probably figured out in the first 15 min of RE7 when Ethan gets his arm & leg sliced off and reattaches them with rubbing alcohol

• Wasn't a huge fan of how RE8 was loaded with basically every single horror stereotype, it made it hard to understand wtf the mold in the game is even doing, like how some people are werewolves, some are zombies, some are vampires etc. wish the developers stuck with one motif for the enemies and iterated on that instead of doing a little bit of everything

overall I thought it was a good game, I will probably replay in a few months. What did CE think

In fairness, I think the plot twist is meant to be that the real Ethan has been dead this entire time, this is a mold monster that has his memories.

Eh, the game justifies it a bit. The four lords are descendants of ancient families, so they might have gained more beneficial mutations because their bloodline coexisted with the giant mold baby for so long. Lady Dimitrescu was also specifically said to have a blood disorder which interacted with the parasite.

Beat it recently and while I find it a good game, its not as good as 4 or 7. Its an amalgamation from those RE games in a lite version. Not as scary, tense as 7 and not as fun combat wise as 4. Plus all that you said from the story. That said I like Ethan for some reason.

I kinda preferred the lycans and such in Village over the Molded in VII.

At least Village had more enemy variety.

It has amazing replayability. I liked the game a lot. Maybe not as scary as 7 but a very good sequel. I didn't find the twist to be too eye rolling. Admittedly I never connected the dots honestly but it made sense and didn't really bother me. The factory albeit really cool was a bit too action packed, followed by the end sequence with Chris, but still enjoyable. I'm very happy with 7 and 8 in the end.

In a weird way, it kind of felt like it had less variety to me. There's a lot more combat focus in Village and each area only has its own enemies, so you end up fighting the same thing more than you did in RE7.

But it might just be that I didn't really like Heisenberg's Factory where you fight approximately 400 robo-zombies who are by far the most annoying and least enjoyable enemy in the game.

I actually kinda liked the factory, though I do feel it went on too long.

I like it for the rare guns

The Ethan being a mold monster thing surprised me because I assumed the rapid healing from the medicine was just crazy umbrella-esque science bullshit. It wouldn't be any more unrealistic than the other stuff they've created.

Reminder DEVS had a hard time, they were forced to Downscale down the horror of this game

their focus group for RE 7 said it was extremely too scary

I will say Chris looked like freaking Solid Snake at that last part

You could tell he was infected in RE7 because of the hallucinations. They never actually cured him.
