I don't understand why it's SO important to baby boomers to talk down to people, to say nothing of telling people how they "should" be living their lives.

Flipping burgers IS beneath our dignity.

Not because it's demeaning work in itself but because there is a pervasive issue of under pay, wage theft, with a toxic mangament/corporate culture, a horrible customer base, and poor safety standards/enforcement.

When wages stop stagnating and raise to match inflation and we are treated like humans perhaps we won't complain so much.

Id like to believe that thats satirical, but you just know that someone has their head shoved so far up their ass that they 100% typed all that out unironically.

That tortured 'rain forest' analogy in Rule #7 reeks of someone who unironically (and undeservedly) patted themselves on the back after coming up with it.

I like how they mock the idea of having multiple tries for things. Having multiple tries is a good thing, I would hate to work in a place where you have to do it perfect every single time. Having only one shot at doing something is kinda rare. They want things done right, which usually requires revisions at the minimum. Not to mention there should be plenty of communication to proactively not have scrambles.

But I worked at mostly sane companies myself so maybe Im in a bubble.

there's nothing I necessarily disagree with. I just don't know why these are "rules" instead of just old man observations. Rule, to me, means DO to this and DON'T do that. Not "don't expect to make a million dollars and a daily massage for serving hamburgers!!"

I mean I am too. I work at a school and they're being very patient with me while I learn to work with kids.

My previous job screwed me for a month for a couple of silly mistakes I made, and then for another month even though I was completely justified and they decided to put the costumer wants before my needs.

The whole life isn't fair shit, is what people say when they don't care about the injustice that happens to other. If the person who wrote that got robbed. You can bet your bottom dollar that he or she would seek justice not just say life isn't fair.

Let me give you an example of more what that's geared at. I applied for a promotion recently. Not being cocky but I'm the hardest working and most ambitious out of all that applied. I gurantee you either the guy with 15 years in or the guy with 16 years in is gonna get it. The guy with 15 in is a lazy sack of shit and the guy with 16 had that promotion before but for demoted cause he fucks up. Im 95% sure one of then two will get it over me and it's bullshit them just having more time in will be what does it but I understand thats just how things go here and I'm powerless to stop it. I dont like it but I accept it and move on with my life

That said I do disagree with a few things. The self esteem. I will say no one owes it to you to help boost your self esteem but having it from the start is a good thing

Parents can be the blame for you not being the best you could be. All I'll say is you cant use it as an excuse for the rest of your life. Once you are grown its up to you to start realizing your flaws and working on them

Even for what's true here, it feels like the difference between, like, if you go into the bathroom and your boss is like, "Oh, hey, if you press the flusher too hard poop splashes out" and your boss shaking your hand when you show up and shouting "Sometimes poop splashes out of the toilet! It happens!"

Not a perfect analogy, this letter is more insulting to the new employee.

There are some jobs where you dont get a second try. For example surgeon, doctor, and fire fighter. Arguably an anyone who works in construction also dont get a pass because if you mess up then somebody can die, although there are audits and whatever to try to give you multiple tries.

what about it isn't true? that life is unfair? you don't get "semesters" in the working world? that your bosses aren't more difficult than your teachers?

obviously not everyone is going to have the same experiences, but I feel that most of those list items are things that hold true for most working adults.
