Well?

They arent doing anything extra. They just prepare the food and you pick it up. Do you tip?

Depends - just because you pick the food up doesnt mean the wait staff didnt do any work to get your order ready for you. Theres a good chance youre still being served by them in some fashion. Not always, but a lot of the time they are the ones packing everything up for you, etc. and they dont deserve to be stiffed in those cases.

Filling a bag isn't worthy of a tip. Fast food workers fill my bag all the time and I dont tip them.

Fast food workers are also not paid a minimum wage of $2.13 an hour. Not that fast food workers are paid particularly well themselves, but they are paid significantly better than servers who rely on tips.

Yes they are.
No, they arent. Restaurants are required to ensure they make at least the federal minimum wage with many states requiring more. California, for example, requires tipping positions to be paid either 13 or 14 an hour before tips, depending on number of employees. The they only get paid $2.13 an hour thing is a twisting of the actual situation.

Restaurants are required to make up the difference if their wage+tips on a given pay period dont come to 2.13/hr. What that means is if I made $200 in tips yesterday and $0 in tips today I still only made $2.13 an hour today because Im technically over federal minimum wage in total earnings still.

Here is a paystub from when I was serving that you can even see $2.13/hr and no additional hourly wage. Tips were fat at this place so it wasnt an issue but others places it may not be the case.

Which meansfollow along nowthat they are required to ensure tipped employees make at least the federal minimum wage for the pay period. And again, many states require more than that.

When I worked at Outback we had to grab bread out the warmer, get any necessary utensils and condiments, ensure everything is in the bag and we would physically walk it out to your car. Outback also didnt have cocktail sauce so if people wanted it we made it by hand. I only know how to make cocktail sauce because of that job.

Also worked at On the Border years ago and you could order a Guacamole live to go which meant the to-go person would make your guacamole from scratch. We also made fresh tortillas for every order which required them.

It wasnt a hard job but it also wasnt just putting food in bags. If the job was that easy it wouldnt be a full time job.

That may be true for California but here in Pennsylvania the minimum wage for tipped positions is $2.83, and the business is only required to pay up to the federal minimum wage of $7.25 if the worker doesnt make that in tips. Many states dont require higher than that. Only 25 states require more than $10/hr total. Now if you live in a state where tipped employees are guaranteed the same wage as regular workers then by all means you are safe in not tipping them, as youre not really stiffing them. Youll notice that the very first word in my very first post in this topic was Depends.

No shit. We know that. That still means if they are over that threshold they are only being paid $2.13 while serving you. Your example only works if literally nobody tips. Youre basically using tips that the people before you left to subsidize your meal.

your entire posting history here is arguing with trolls about tips

what exactly are you hoping to accomplish besides stressing yourself out

I sold me Series S months ago in hopes of finding a Series X and I havent been able to find one. I have no games. This is all I have left.

All good though. Im just trying to change the narrative. We need to treat service and retail staff better.

Good news is I think I found a Series X. Gonna have to pay a couple hundred over retail but its whatever at this point.

The post I was quoting talked about California requiring $13-14/hr as though it was the norm. My post was correcting that position. Frankly if you think that $7.25 is an adequate wage then I dont know if theres a point continuing any conversation about this issue with you. Even in my crappy rural hometown fast food workers are making more than that these days.

The post you quoted said that everybody is required to ensure they make at least the federal minimum wage with many states requiring more than that. You didnt correct anything, and that isnt a position. Its an accurate statement of fact.

My position would be that every job should be required to pay a living wage for the area and that tipped positions shouldnt exist. That has no bearing on correcting somebody who is stating false things about the current situation.
