Connecting to form something else makes sense, but Diglett and Dugtrio are really weird without knowing what their bodies look like.

Same way individual insect combine to form a colony, zooids combine to form a siphonophore, etc.

And "evolve" can be accurately used outside of referring to Darwinian evolution. Pokemon's use of it is also correct.

Doesn't make any less sense that Exeggcute being one entity across 6 bodies, and then combining into one to evolve.

Or Slowpoke evolving when an entirely different species latches onto it.

I know that's the canon, but the shell is actually an older pokemon who got cut from the game.
