With some quality of life adjustments-- particularly, higher resolutions and FOV, VR headsets could be the all in one media center of the future. I'm sure eventually they will be comfortable enough and high fidelity enough to enjoy watching movies through them with no problem, for example. For simpler inputs like navigation I'm sure companies like Facebook will eventually implement something like eye tracking so you don't even need to carry controllers around with it.

I doubt it will be good for humanity though.

We're like two or three major iterations away from VR sunglasses

Why wouldn't it be the future? Y'all said the same stuff about handhelds until we moved on to bashing mobile gaming. There was a time where it was a bad look for a gamer to not be part of an arcade and a D&D club. VR is the future beyond gaming. It's that secret element to push immersion all the way home. Next comes the tactile stuff unless they create a new interface to kill two birds. I'd have a jack installed. Why not.

Imo the future is going to be AR/XR.
Check out the North AR glasses. I got to try a dev kit of those a few years ago and I've spent time with both Hololens and Magic Leap

AR is no where near useable for the average consumer, but it's 100% the future.

After playing on my roommates Quest 2 for a while now, thats how I see it too. VR is a lot of fun, but theres too many catches. One being people experiencing motion sickness. I can only play for half an hour at a time, unless its something like Google Earth.

Glasses just make more sense

I'd also like to add that AR with a cover and backlight can easily become VR.
