Everything I played after the first game is heavily scripted trash, although AC2 & Brotherhood can be enjoyable to some degree just to be fair.

And no, I don't think the first one was anywhere near perfect, but the assassinations were the most satisfying.

I think that's all I've played. I've started Odyssey but dropped it for now since I was liking Valhalla much more. I also have Rogue but haven't had time to play it.

I give 3 a lot of shit because it underdelivered with all the hype surrounding it but it was still a decent game albeit janky at times. 1 was great but the sequels improved many aspects such as the combat and parkour (plus I like the setting of the Italy more than the Middle East). Revelations felt like a lazy sequel that could have been added to Brotherhood to finish Ezio's story and had the least interesting locale.

I played a little bit of Black Flag but I got too tired of the series at that point to really try and dig into it.

For me, I really got into the loot and abilities of Odyssey, which created this really fun sense of always getting stronger from quest to quest. They toned down both aspects of the game in Valhalla, though.

The abilities were fun but toned down loot would be really nice. It got pretty annoying that you had open up your menu every 5 minutes to change out your bracers because you got a new pair that gave you 2% more damage.

If you end up liking Brotherhood, you should definitely play Revelations, too. It has some really awesome Tomb Raider-esque locations to experience, plus it's the conclusion of Ezio's arc and I like how they tied it in to both Miles and Altair.

If you like Blag Flag you should give Rogue a chance, it has similar mechanics being the captain of a ship, you get to work on upgrading a fort instead of a pirate island, it has more story that ties in to the events of 3 (they're both prequels to 3 but Rogue gives a lot more context for what happened just prior to 3). It's not the pirate adventure that Black Flag is but I enjoyed it more, there's some beautiful autumn colors and cool winter effects when you're sailing around and the snow is accumulating on your deck.

I also enjoyed Valhalla way more than Odyssey.

They streamlined a lot of nonsense.

The side quests are more focused and generally occur around the area where you pick them up - no more running around clearing out copy-and-pasted bandit camps to retrieve stolen bedpans and jewelry.

The gear system is improved - you just loot junk that you can sell for money. There's no accumulating five million pieces of armor and weapons that serves no purpose other than wasting your time managing your inventory with no gain.

The historical story is not that compelling, but I didn't really find Odyssey's to be all that engaging, either, so that is kind of a moot point. I did find the writing to be a little tighter. I *did* like that they actually revisit the modern day story. Although some time has passed since the events of 3, they actually address that as something that happened and it looks like they're making a move to continue it. I enjoyed this way more than Odyssey's modern day story which was almost nonexistent and didn't really do anything except set up a single plot point that is expanded on in Valhalla.

Also there are some fun side activities, namely the dice poker game and medieval rap battles.

Yeah, I also prefer the gear system in Valhalla. People say they like the loot in Odyssey, but every drop seems to have set levels of power, and there's very little variation in everything. I'd love a Diablo/Borderlands style random loot system, but I'll take Valhalla's approach over Odyssey's half-assed system anyday.

I also think the characters in Valhalla are way more interesting. Eivor is immediately awesome (and you can switch between male/female whenever you want, you're not stuck with your choice), and the rest of your village is cool. Building your village up over the course of the game is fun and makes you feel connected to them all.

And I just find the Viking age England/Norway setting more interesting and beautiful than Greece.
